I have pick up a 1947 Mercury Coupe and I'm looking at using a 3" raised 41-48 Ford Front crossmember from Speedway to lower the front of it. Does any body know if this will work? Below is a link to what I'm referring to. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/1941-48-Ford-Crossmember,3439.html
I just got done putting one in my 47' Ford. Not the easiest install, but doable. I'll post pics as soon as I can. From what I've been getting is it's not a true 3" drop, it's more of a 1.5" drop. On mine, the holes didn't line up and the spring pad area had to be opened about 3/8". If I was you, I would look at the spring set up, ie: pulling a leaf or two, and a drop axle from Sid. Just my $.02
I have done this crossmember swap twice I believe the results are with the price and effort. They advise you that it will not work with a flat motor.
With the crossmember and a 4" drop axle, I only saw a 5 1/2" drop. I decided to pull half of the springs out. It sits 10" to the bottom of the bumper. With 235/60/15's up front Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
