image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg View attachment 2644902 Been working on little things that don't show up much . Worked on bed putting on my e track ant finishing up some welds , and working out sides of bed . The 59 dodge quarters will not work with out a pile of work as there is no way to get tires off without reforming the rear bottoms and reshaping the wheel wells , not the look I'm after . With the bed raised with ram the quarters ran into the tires .

I am going to use some 40 ford auto fenders cut down to 7 .5 " these will look better and may let me change a flat ! Played with it today and it's close . Need to check how tight it will be with bags( dirty word) up and down . Soon as I'm sure all fits I will take apart and blast and paint . Sleeper is already off and ready for paint .

Well I ran out of Clecos today so I will have to finish this side of the bed before I can start the other . Started the bed pockets and got the sides of them finished . I am waiting on sheet metal now so I can bend up and roll the side of them . I took some s**** and made so samples of what I would like to do . I really hate my HF bead roller ! Shure would like to have a nice heavy duty one with power feed.

I not sure if I going to use my stretcher or relief cuts on the bottom of pockets . The sides are 16 g and the sides will be 18 g with the bead in center . Drilled a lot of holes for rivets to match the sleeper . I am going to use the forty fenders and will need to bring the front of fender down four inches . Waiting on some repair parts from Yogi's , weld them into fender at right spot and and build running boards from fender to front of sleeper . Think this will work and be worth all the work ? image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Glad to see you're back at it Blue. Keep up the good work. To bad the Dodge rear 1/4s didn't work out. I'll be keeping an eye on you. Going in for knee replacement tomorrow so you'll have to keep me entertained with progress reports for the next few weeks. :)

Ok guys I've got a ? On sheet metal prep . The 16 g metal I used for bed has a black color to it but I don't think it is mill scale. This might be some kind of pickling . Before I prime does it have to come off are what ? I sprayed some rust blast on it and cleaned it up a little but it takes sanding with a paint remover to get down to shiny metal. I am scared to blast it because it is nine feet by three and I don't want to warp it.

Has any body yo used this steel before and can I just clean and prime ? Will be using ppl epoxy primer and would hate to prime and then have problems with top coat . image.jpg image.jpg So this little bit I did took almost one hour which makes doing both sides and front about 16 hrs ! We'll I got my blaster and used it this morn. Before it got hot . PUT one bag thru it and blasted one of the rear fenders , as they were really rusted . The compressor kept up pretty good , only got down to 85 psi . Next time I put my three horse comp. in line for more air like Mike recomended . As I only had one bag of sand I will have to wait till next week when I go to my father in laws to get some more .

Is there a grit I should use ? I was going to get 33 bags ,a skid , of fine sand . Blue image.jpg The photo of the fender would not down load. , too large ? Looks like it will take three bags to do a badly rusted fender .

  10. Good progress!
I always take off all of the black, I call it mill scale.
It seems to stick to the metal real well, but my gut
tells me the primers won't stick to it very well.

  11. Blue. Isnt zincor sheet metal available over there ? Its ideal because it wont rust and has no effect on welding
And you can just spray primer on it

Sander , I think zincor is called paint grip here and yes it's available here if you can find it . I live about 200 miles from any source of sheet metal and you take what you can get when you are there . They don't keep much in PG and hardly any 16 g . I have a sheet of 20&18 g in it but no 16 . I'll get it clean and primered and won't use it again . Hope you are enjoying your truck . Blue

  13. zincor is electrolytically galvanized sheetmetal
but i get the picture of availability in your situation.

well i think thats the benefit when you live in a small country, having almost everything available in close range :)

  14. Up in my part of the country, we call it galvanealed steel

  15. Same stuff goes by "Paint Lock" around here. I like to plan out two or three projects ahead and order the stuff in a quan***y that a couple vendors will deliver for free or at a discount. I usually have to spend over $300 to get that deal here, but it can be sheet, plate and dimensional tube to hit the dollar amount.

Haven't been doing much lately , doc put me on some new meds and have no energy and got the ****s .

Did go and got my diamond plate for bed and 33 bags of sand .
After getting the little blaster ran into an old friend who had a little job for me on his race car . While there he told me to look out back and I found a 205 hp sand blaster on a trailer . It has a suit and make up air for hood and it holds five bags of sand at a time ,COOL, so I know what I'll be doing next week if it stops raining . I'll strip all sheet metal and dump bed of frame and go to town ! But when I get back ill blast .LOL

Got a TP spray rig and will through some epoxy prim on every thing .anyone had exper . With this turbo system.

Ok guys , sorry for not posting in a while . Had to do some motorcycle work to pay the bills . Then I took off 10 days and rode to Sturgis and just got back . While I was gone stopped my new meds and now I'm a new man . Thought I was burned out on project but it was the ****py meds . Its not the getting old , its the **** they put you on.....

So today i started making my rear tow unit and supports but cant finish till blasted and primed because I have to rivit in places before i can weld some parts .I'm picking up the blaster Friday and will start blasting Sat. Will start pulling everything apart tomorrow .
My wife wants me to get busy on the airstream so we can use it this winter . I told her I would do it in Oct. I should be able to work on the COE about 200 hours between now and then . Latter Blue View attachment 2687524 View attachment 2687524 DSC00415 (640x480).jpg

It sounds as though you're not reusing your sand if you're thinking 3 bags per fender. If you blast on a clean surface, concrete or whatever just sweep the sand up run it through your screen and reuse it.

The three bags was with the can blaster , I think using the big blaster I'm getting it will go faster and with less sand . I don't have any hard surfaces except my shop and storage . Tried blasting in my shop 5 years ago ,never again . I'm still finding sand .

Today I finished all the holes in bad sides( I think ) and did all the braces on lift frame . I pulled the bed apart and took lift bed frame off the truck frame . Boy does the frame look low after all this time .

Tomorrow I will move the frame out in pasture where I'm going to blast . Then will make a new dolly for body and remove the body and mount to it , ready for blasting before body work . If time allows may pull motor and trans . DSC00417 (640x480).jpg DSC00418 (640x480).jpg

Need help! My cab seems to be the same as the long hood except the doors and rockers for coe . As you can see in photos the cab and iner fender wells catch dirt and water . Can i cut these off below the floor frame area as they just hang down and I can see on function ? I would cut this out and build a panel to cover the area . ?????????? Well I got the blaster and what a bruit . I blasted the dump frame and got a coat of paint on it . This is the first time I have used KBS on a big area .Worked pretty good .It started raining rigt after I got frame blasted and had to move it in doors .
Also my 2x4 body mover came apart and I threw togeather a steel one that is adjustable . I like it alot . Started blasting the frame and rear end this morn but mare rain . I should not complain , we need the rain but it could have waited a week . DSC00424 (640x480).jpg DSC00426 (640x480).jpg DSC00427 (640x480).jpg DSC00428 (640x480).jpg DSC00429 (640x480).jpg

Finished the sand blasting !, or should I say I ran out of sand .30 bags down and I am about 3/4 done . The big blaster is a lot faster than my little pot blaster but uses about the same amount of sand . I did all the blasting out in the side yard and there is so much sand on the ground I thought I saw golf balls out there .LOL
I will do the rest of the blasting latter as I have plenty to do for a while with epoxy to put on and paint on frame and re***embly . Then I will work on body work as I found lot of Swiss cheese in doors . The front p*** fender has Ben repaired with about four foot of welding . It must have been in about five pieces ,the welding looks good . The rear finders had some dent in them that was repaired with lead .
After I've done some work I post some progress photos .

I will not be doing any more big sandblasting projects as it wore this old man out !

Well it's been a while . Took time off and rode up to Ruidoso on our motors , stopping in Roswell to check out A1 wrecking yard before the sale next week end . They wouldn't let us in before the sale inspection . But looked through the fence and got the hots for some stuff so i'll drag a trailer up there on the 19th .

Got the blasting done and found more holes than I knew I had , no big deal just more work . It never ends . Took rear end apart and found new gears , bearings , and brake shoes ! But they did not clean out the housing our the inside of backing plates . Took it all the way down ,cleaned , painted , reset gears and bearings /crush tube . Then replaced wheel cylinders and new springs .Tommorow I will install new brake lines and rehang the rearend under the painted frame . Boy this is the fun part .
