Cool video.. I think that everyone that participates in the Race of Gentleman can relate to this video. The sights, the smells, the sand and of course the speed. thanks for posting. HRP
what a great video, even though it is just a comercial, still greatly done. When I had first seen this on tv I of course had to google it and then saw the "making of video" also.
Cool video....I think it was on here awhile back. I read that book by Frankl......Interesting to hear his voice...
@Jive-Bomber - Well done TV commercial! ... Thanks for sharing! Here's some vintage footage of Sir Malcolm Campbell and "Blue Bird" on Daytona Beach (Sorry, no color or rap star narration ): February 22, 1933 February 18, 1935 March 7, 1935 March 11, 1935
I've always loved the Bluebird and others like her.....and I never tire in my enthusiasm for Land Speed record cars.
What a pile of steaming manure! Just like everything that was once outlaw and over the edge, multinational conglomerate ‘luxury brand’ Hennessy, that has had more mergers in the past twenty years than Phyliss Diller had face-lifts, takes the legend of a speed freak from England and co-opts his greatness and creates an advertising campaign that sounds like it was dreamed up by Don D****r, to sell hooch. Pardon me while I try not to get yellow stuff on my boots, but something that looks slick as this one does, and co-opts the old Hollywood ‘Secretariat’ spin of faux glamor, to sell an alcoholic beverage, may be one of the most Freudian slips ever. Booze and fast cars? I can just imagine the folks at M.A.D.D. and what they have say about merging blazing fast speeds and a.. what was it? An Inner Freakin’ Rabbit? Are they trying to one up the Pink Bunny? So much subconscious dreck it makes my head spin! They already sell fifty million bottles of Cognac a year. I wonder how many HAMBers are into the presumed drink of the nobility? We are noble, aren’t we? Or are we men?
Enjoyed the old film reels! I collect old Hubley toy cars. Now I know where Hubley got the inspiration to make one of the cars I have that has seen it's better days. At least some kids had a lot of fun with it.
Funny, all I noticed was a fast car and the name of a great driver. Adverti*****ts can and do, influence the thinking of a lot of people. I guess I'm not one of those people. Seems kind of weak minded. I would be embarr***ed to say that a commercial had any type of effect on me other than awe and envy of the man and the machine. Rabbits, bunnies and M.A.D.D.? It's just a freaking commercial.
I just spit my Hennessey all over my tablet when I read this, Jeez: I think most Hambers just appreciate the story and the land speed car and as HRP said: The Man Had Big Br*** Ones! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
What Sir Malcolm Campbell and his son Donald Campbell did to both the land speed, and water speed records....with their evolving Bluebird cars and boats.....has absolutely nothing to do with anything that Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Its a commercial dude....closed course....no kids in mini vans.....no deer in headlights...and from what I can see...not a drop to drink in any context of driving. For one whom so willingly crossed the line of life or death...of which is son did not fare as well as his dad....I would think a calming swallow of anything AFTER white knuckle lunacy/bravery/serendipity fueled rides on the back of those beasts of yesteryear...would be fully deserving and supported by M.A.D.D. 3 fingers worth, even in Alabama. These guys were cut from different cloth, to be sure.
