Fellas, Just came across this on our aussie ebay and thought i've never seen anything like it. Anyone have any idea what the deal is with these ally front backing plates?

Any link to the thread? Inquiring minds want to know! They look awfully deep set, almost like the Lincoln brakes of the early forties would be my first though. Then, in the corners of my mind I remember an aluminum backing plate and drum set up that I believe Franklin made for sprint cars in the fifties...
i've seen 'em on some south american early fords... brought a set home about 15 years ago. no idea if i even have 'em anymore. sorry, i'm no help

Hi It was all in a 35 ch***is that I bought for parts. Had a lot of Wierd things done to it, certainly must have worked well because it had done enough miles to wear the drums out the same as the tires, a couple of drums were worn though to being see through between the ribs Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. The 1932 Chevrolet and other cars had hydraulic brakes, using the Huck system. You recognize the huck backing plate by the two adjusting slots by the side of the cylinder. These are not looking exactly like the 32 Chevy brakes ive seen. But hey are of the Huck system type. Anyway im pretty sure some clever guy took the chance to manufacture upgrade kits for Ford mechanical brakes, long before Henry provided hydraulic brakes. I want to read about this in Rodders journal ;-) So let the knowledge hunt start.... Chevrolet Huck type brakes.
Chevrolet and GM did not have hydraulic brakes until 1936, Ford in 39, Mopar in 1924. Likely a factory effort at cost reduction, I don't hink the Ford factory though.
