'67 kick only magneto sporty... at 11.2:1 it was great at throwing ya over the bars and creating a limp that takes a year to go away. sure ran like a ****d ape, as long as the fuel was perfect. high octane pump + touline & an ounce of premix per gallon of gas.... with a 1.4 gallon tank it was less than convenient to fill at the station. now it's a 9.5:1 creampuff. runs fine on 87 octane in the winter, 91 in the summer. kicks over easy. i had an old tractor with a flat 4 in it... that really would run on anything... gasoline, lamp oil, ethanol, nasty sour mash, kerosene... it became a game to see what it'd run on.
Pale oil is a light clear oil. In other words, diesel fuel. Many additives contain diesel fuel. They don't want to tell you that so they call it pale oil in the MSDS.
One of the first jobs I had, we took a farm pickup in trade that had a compression knock from carbon build up. My boss poured automatic transmission fluid down the carburetor while revving the engine. It apparently burned the carbon out and stopped the knocking. Smoked like crazy.
On the back of a octane booster bottle, it said that it was made with jet fuel. Jet fuel is kerosine. However,I know if you put enough diesel in your gasoline tank, your engine will detonate (ping). Posted using the Full Custom MUNDSTER app!
As stated above it will detonate, run hot smell and run on with the ign shut off. we use to mix our own racing gas av high test 20% methanol and then add acetone until it reached a predetermined weight
Reminds me of when I was 16 or 17 and after a night of teen age drinking I stopped at a local gas station to get some gas and the attendant put diesel in my tank as a joke. Luckily I only had a buck on me but his "good deal" on gas caused me a lot of grief and a lot of kidding for years to come.
When I was a teenager I had a 40 ford coupe I kept in our barn. I got really tired of the barn swallows ****ping on it so one day I got the bright idea of doing just what you said , but I used kerosene. I fed some into the carb of the flathead and let the smoke fill the barn. Problem was I forgot about the vent in the barn roof and it wasn't long before the town's volunteer fire department showed up. I never did get rid of the swallows.
Absolutely, but there seems to be some reason why, and if it was a snake oil someone will be selling it to you, in this case the question was, does it make since to add 1 pint of diesel to 10 gal of gas for the reasons mentioned and why or why not Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Makes smoke, seller says smoke is junk being removed from the engine, buyers' limited understanding of science makes this sound plausible. Profit.
Does not make smoke at 1 pint of diesel to 10 gallons of gas, old man that told me about it does it 100 % of the time to his old cars and they never smoke. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I've heard all kinds of crazy **** to dump in the gas tank over the years, diesel fuel, denatured alcohol and even moth balls..I resist doing this stuff,,I'll stick to gasoline. HRP
So far 0 diesel is going into my motors. But moth balls keep the fuel fresh and bug free, plus it makes it more pleasant to huff. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
ATF added to gas at 1-2 oz/5 gallons seems to be a good replacement for lead subs***ute. Detergent properties help keep the system clean. Cheap. Easy to find.
If adding Diesel is such a great idea, why doesn't some smart gasoline wholesaler or refiner sell it at the pump that way? Because it's a dumb idea, that's why. Fuels and lubes have always attracted snake oil salesmen for some reason and sprouted old wives tales. Probably because 99.99% of the general population really understands chemistry, flame propogation theory and combustion physics.
Because it damages catalytic converters in newer cars. I am not being a hard ***. Nor I am adding it to my fuel tanks, but I will like to know why it is such a bad idea, or such a good idea. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
