    Hi
Does anyone know the load capacity of a 11/16-18 stainless tie rod end sold by most suppliers
I have emailed a few but have had no reply. I need it to satisfy my engineer for registration in Oz
    Thanks Roadhog

Most stainless in equivelent to a grade 5 bolt. Because of this fact I would hesitate to use stainless tie rod ends

I agree. Don't take a chance of failure on such a critical component for the sake of a little bit of bling. Not worth losing a life over.

you talking about a ball rod end ( heim joint -rose bearing ) if so you have to contact the manufactuer who made it , if you do not know who made it float test it in the nearest lake, pond or ocean , then buy a reputuable brand like Aurora bearing rod ends , they have aircraft spec and industrial spec and list the strengths .

Oldsman is correct. I cringe when I see stainless steel bolts on suspension parts. Sure they polish like chrome but are way too soft for some applications. I would also be concerned where they were made. I had two separate ball joints that I purchased from a major supply house that were made in CHINA!
Any NAPA store can give you USA made rod ends.

Stainless will work but you have to get the right grade which usually means you don't get them at your local hardware or auto parts house. A grade 8 bolt has a tensile strength of 150,000 PSI, rockwell hardness rating C31. A stainless near equivalent grade A286 has the tensile strength of 140,000 PSI and a rockwell hardness rating C31. Don't know the other grades, would probably head into the aircraft industry standards for further info. You could take one to a testing lab and have a pull test done and a shear test, but probably mean wasting a rod end.

explain Tie Rod end ??? is it a Tapered Ball socket (that we commonly refere to as a ty-rod end) or a Rod end (commonly re-fered to as a Heim) that a bolt or stud goes thru the pivot ball???

You could have them hardness checked. I would be amazed if Speedway had any specs. I buy high quality parts and then paint them with silver paint. I am also extreamly cheap.

If it came from Speedway, I would not use them. They are made in China, and I know from my experience when working there that there will be no specs

If you are talking about an original style tie rod end, the NAPA part numbers are 269-2241-NCP for the RH thread and 269-2240-NCP for the LH thread, made in the USA!!!
