Hot Rods question about a narrowed rear

i have the oppurtunity to have the rear end in my car narrowed 1" on each side at no cost to me. I have the clearence needed inboard, and i would not have to move the control arms any.This would make it much easier to remove the wheels and the new rims are at least 1" wider then the original rims. Would there be any negative effects?

 

The biggest negative affect would be the cost of having new axles made to fit the narrowed housing. You can't re-spline an axle shaft 1" so you will be forced to buy new axles$$$$

Many axles have excess spline already cut into the shaft. If you get lucky, you may get away with utting off the excess 1".

Hell if it's all free, and you;d like id done, there IS NO down side.
