We have our Nationals this weekend and I met up with a friend of mine and we got to talking about my OT '63 Tbird and it having a cyl with stuck rings. He proceeded to tell me a story of an old mechanic who told his Dad to use iodine in the cyl to free it up. Said to leave in there if for a few weeks and then try. Well according to my friend......said it worked. Anyone here of this treatment before?
Interesting. I've never heard of that. Unless other folks can confirm, I'm not sure I'd try it considering there are many other tried and true methods.
Rislone works well for stuck rings. We had a Pontiac with gummed up lifters and rings that would hardly run after sitting for over a year. Clattered like hell. We added some Rislone and took it out for a ride By the 3rd exit on the beltway the smoking subsided and it was purring like a kitten when we got back. If it does indeed have gummed up rings Rislone will help to unstick them. It won't overhaul your engine but will allow the rings to free up.
I realize nothing in a bottle (snake oil) is going to fix existing engine problems (worn rings etc) but if the snake oil can free up the only cyl that's stuck.......I'll deal with the probable tear down and rebuild later. I'd just like to get it hitting on all eight first.
