Any Anglia cars or projects out there?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by cabanadan, Dec 30, 2007.

  1. A buddy of mine is building one. He is looking for the cheapest way to put five lug wheels on his four lug front drums. Is there room to re-drill the drums?

Well, A sad update on this car... My folks had sold this car to a neighbor, who was also leasing our shop which is a few hundred miles away from where my parents live now. Just a few days ago my parents shop burned to the ground. We didn't have a lot left in there since we are not actively farming other than some tools and equipment. Our former neighbor lost some vehicles he had stored in there in the mean time. Thankfully nobody was hurt and its only "Stuff" but its sad to lose another rare car such as this Anglia.

My latest 48 Thames and 2 prefects I recently purchased. I built a 48 Thames a few years back. I hated selling it. This will be its replacement, only better! Lots of work, but they don't grow on trees.

Here are some recent photos of my latest Anglia build - a '49 3-holer. I sold the '57 Chevy rear axle that came with it but I still have the narrowed '37 Ford tube axle for sale that was under it when I bought it. As much as I was tempted to use the original stuff I decided to upgrade to a new tube chassis with a narrowed 9-incher in back and a Fatman's IFS in front. If you are interested in the narrowed '37 Ford front axle assembly please check out my ad in the HAMB Parts For Sale section under the heading "'37 Ford Tube Front Axle". Thank you.

    Enjoy my pics:

By the way, I visited Chuck Finders - noted AA/GS racer and chassis builder - who showed me how he built his cars, and I essentially build my Anglia chassies in the same manner. It should be good for 1200 HP - waaaay more than my puny inlines put out. Thanks Chuck. RIP Buddy.

...and the '37 front axle assembly I'm selling (asking $175):

I just brought this one home today. Had sat for approx. 20 years. A complete, running stocker. Actually drove it on the trailer. :)

Not quite an Anglia but a friends 48 Vauxhall (Pommy rod) fitted to a modified 46 Chevy Fleetline chassis. Recently totalled and being rebuilt with a new body. Was a more door but tudored.

Not that I need this in my life right now, but when cars like this become available, you can't let them get away.

A friend of mine knew of this car and told me about it 6 years ago. I told him if it ever became available, and he didn't want it, to let me know. Monday he called me and asked if I still wanted the Anglia. He sent me some pics and I bought it the following day without ever seeing it. Sunday I went down to pick it up, met the owner( good guy/Hot Rodder )and not only was it as good as I hoped it would be, he gets in the car and starts it up. Motor sounds great. He had rebuilt the carb, replaced the fuel pump, cleaned out the gas tank, ran new fuel lines, etc. All the lights work, the brakes work ( mechanical brakes still in 1951). He drove it out of the garage and right on to the trailer, where is still sitting. Like to get it to my shop in the end of the week, and maybe even drive it around a little. Nothing like driving a car with a 10 HP motor Anglia 5 5 15 1st time out 20 yrs.jpg !

Geez, Baron, nice score. Albie will be green with envy (not that he needs yet another Anglia).

As I understand it the "10 HP" designation referred to the UK taxable HP formula and not really to the engine's actual output. I think they also had a "8 HP" version (1100cc?). Maybe someone here or in the UK can elaborate.

The sound of power. Sounds a little like a Model A .
    1172 cubic centimeters = 71.5 cubic inches :D
