I'm wondering who might know what size the garnish molding screws are for a '40 Ford, and where to purchase them also. The originals were thrown away a few years ago when I took the car apart and now of course I can't remember where I put them. Thanks for any help.

Most garnish molding screws are #8 screw with #6 head and I believe are called Jackson Head screws. Most auto upholstery/trim shops should have them. You don't necessarily need the Jackson Head type but they seat down in the molding hole better.

I have never heard of Jackson head screws, what does it look like. Most of the interior trim screws that I am familiar with are called Oval head screws. Check with McMaster Carr, they have any screw you can want. I buy them in bulk and save a lot of money.

Oval head screws are the correct ones to use, but in the '40s, only straight slotted screws were available, not phillips.
Again, McMaster-Carr or other on-line suppliers should have 'em.

  16. ^^^^ Exactly.

Size, take a molding in find a screw that fits the molding well (countersink and diameter) that is probably going to be the right size.

Thats the ticket right there! I hadn't thought of ordering from McMaster. Might have to stock up on some "standard" lengths. :)
