Projects 324 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 Cylinder Head Rebuilding

Hey guys I gotta pull my 324 out of my 55' super 88 and I am toying with the idea of doing a big valve conversion etc. to the heads. I want to know if any of you have done this and what are the power gains/advantages?

Also what does this kind machining run($$$)? Thanks guys in advance.....

 

I would go with 1956 heads and/or call Tony Ross.

 

Yup I've heard of those coveted #10 heads.....but the ones I've come across have been $$$.

 

Whatever you do, make sure you put hardened valves seats in the exhaust side.
And by the time, it wouldn't cost much more to put the oversized valves in.

I did it on my #8 heads, but have yet to see how it all turns out.

I do this a lot on Studebaker heads (have also done many of the Big Three also). Larger intake valves, hard exhaust seats. Some carefull porting goes a LONG way toward finishing the big valve addition.
With a good intake manifold and cam, it's well worth the effort/money.

Thanks guys for your input and information. Mike those guys, machinist, are about 2 hrs north of me...hmmm maybe ill be taking a lil road trip in the future with my #8's..
