Ryan, I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad's passing, we've never met, but having lost my Dad 5 years ago now, perhaps I understand a little of what you must be feeling.
The loss of a parent is a difficult thing for most folks, a guy loosing his Dad who he was close to, respected and admired, harder still.
Perhaps hardest of all, is the loss of a Dad who was those things and so many more, a great teacher, role model, friend and 'partner in crime'......
I never had the honor of meeting your Dad, however the picture you've painted through your stories over the years....... from the small block powered '55 Chevy he got you as a teen, to showing up with the Camaro for your last street race with the Mustang, your description of his reaction after your injury in the racing accident, and this one, showing up in a big Merc with nitrous so he could blow off his son in a grudge match...... all demonstrate that not only was he likely the coolest dad ever, but compassionate and a hell of a lot of fun as well. I'm sorry I won't get to meet him.
I know at this moment it doesn't feel like it, but you truly are a very fortunate man.

I hope you can find comfort from the things he taught you, that you will teach your children, the passions you shared, that you share with your children, the father he was to you, that you will be to your children; by doing so, you not only honor him but ensure his passion and character live on.
My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

    Not Enough Time

    The time we had, Dad,
    Wasn't nearly enough
    To pack in an entire
    Lifetime of love.

    There are so many questions
    That I need answers to,
    But now that you're gone
There's no way to ask you.

    But there are still photos
    To remember you by,
Each time I look at them,
    I still want to cry.

    They say grief is easier
to bear as time goes by,
    But the doesn't stop me
    from wondering why?

    Why my dear, sweet dad
    Was taken so soon,
When he was my guiding star,
    My sun and my moon.

    There are no answers
    To a question like this,
    So I'll cherish your memory,
And mourn the years we'll miss.

Add my condolences to the hundreds you have already received. I'm envious of the relationship you obviously had with your father. I never could connect with mine on the level you did with yours. My comfort comes from the fact he dedicated his life to protecting this country with a lifetime in the military. He would be sad indeed to see what has come of the country he cherished. Be strong and remember your dad always.

I remember that race and thinking to myself poor Ryan got spanked by his day in front of all his friends. One of many, many special moments between you and your Father I'm sure.

I'm so very sorry to hear the news of your Father's passing. I can't even imagine the pain. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family during this most difficult time.

Sorry for your loss Ryan. My dad put my first wrench in my hand before I was ten. He loved vintage British cars Old MG's and Austin Healeys. Cars that needed constant attention. But he showed me that was where the true fulfillment was. And I always fondly remember that and appreciate him for instilling those beliefs in me..... except the British car part...

    Hello, Ryan.

I lost both of my parents within 6 weeks of each other (cancer took Mom and a careless motorist took Dad). Two years later, I lost my brother (he was also my best friend). I share this so that you know that I know something of what you're going through. You have my deepest condolences. We pray for comfort and strength for you and your family.
