Very nice and very rare. There is a forum for Canadian Pontiacs called " Canadian Poncho ", you should be able to find some info there.

You can obtain build information, options, date of mfg, and which dealer it was
delivered to by contacting GM Canada historical services. GM Canada kept all
statistical manufacturing info. I think the cost is $45.00. You should be able to
locate the contact # etc on Google.....

Yes they are uber rare. Pontiac Canada offered a sedan delivery from 1949 on. A local appliance store had a fleet of 5 or 6 of the 49s. As time went on they became less and less popular, I think 1957 or 58 was the last year.

Occasionally you see a 49, 50 or 51 style but I don't think I have ever seen a 57. Not only did they sell very few, most were used as business or delivery vehicles and quickly got worn out and beaten to death, then junked.

The SP prefix on the paint code may indicate a special order color not in the regular catalog. This suggests the original buyer was a big company that had a special color scheme for their fleet.

    Later..........................

Wikipedia says 1958 was the last Pontiac delivery. They made 449 of them. I don't know how many they made in 1957 but I bet less than 1000.

Just for the comparison to the USA built units , there are no Pathfinders listed as being built in the USA in 1957.

Looks like USA only built the Chieftain (2934 units) and the Starchief Custom (1292) as 2 door wagons in the 57 model year.

Yep, thats a rare one! Congrats!

From my reseach it was ONLY BUILT and SOLD in Canada since 54 ... and the front fenders are FOUR INCHES SHORTER than American ponchos .... 58 was the last year for the sedan delivery ...

Yes they are shorter... Canadian Pontiacs were built on the Chevrolet ch***is with Chev engines, except from 1955 on they used the GMC 261 cu in six.... Pontiac stopped making sixes, but they wanted an economy model in Canada, and the 261 was available, and gave them something to sell that was different from Chev.

Your car should have a 261 six, or a 283 Chev V8 engine. With Powerglide or 3 speed manual, column shift.

If it was from a funeral home that explains why it survived so well. It was probably garaged all its life and carefully maintained, with low miles on it.

It was probably used as a "first response" vehicle, for picking up bodies from the hospital, the morgue, or their homes. Was it originally painted black?

Wonder how a Canadian Pontiac got to New Jersey?

So does it have a Chev engine, or Pontiac? I thought I heard that all Canadian Pontiac's were built on the Chev platform, which is why they have a different wheelbase then the USA versions.

Yep, 261's are 235 derivatives, NOT GMC based. But a healthy sized 6 cylinder nonetheless.

  19. Actually, with exception of nose and perhaps wheel arches, everything under it is the same as a Chevy, so one of those rotted out ones could relatively easily be resurrected with a donor car and repop floors and so forth.

Last year for a US Pontiac Sedan Delivery was 1954. Two door wagon lasted to '58. Whereas Canada got the 2-door wagon through '60.

I have seen a 55,a56, a 57 and two 58's in person, always wanted a 58 or 55. The 57 I saw was at Bob Booths shop near Ottawa Ont about 15 yrs ago ,it was available to buy, but needed a full resto,Im sure its long gone now. I do know of a 55 or 56 that might be available in Ottawa, it needs a roof if it hasn't been worked on since I last saw it.

Super cool, and quite rare as stated. The only '57 I've seen was here in Alberta, and rusted to death. There was a pretty decent looking (at 70 mph and 400 feet) '55 with a for sale sign just outside of Regina a few years back. Cool car.

There's a thread on here of one; former drag car with a stack injection SBC. Barn find sort of car that obviously sat for some time. I've seen a 55 Pont Sedan Delivery with the 261 and 3-speed trans; it had 55 Chevrolet tail lights installed by the owner. Butch/56sedandelivery.

The 261 was an engine all its own. Derived from the Chev 235 but different bore. First used in 1954 in larger Chev trucks, used in Canadian Pontiacs from 1955 to 1962.

Better known as a Pontiac engine in Canada, I figured it was better known as a Chev truck engine in the states.

261 six and three on the tree. You probably have the best, original, low mileage example in the world. At least I would be surprised if there was a more original survivor.

No doubt there will be lots of head scratching at any old car functions you go to. As long as you don't change anything. Do the slightest modification and everyone will ***ume you faked it up out of an old Chev.

All I'm going to do is get the do***entation on it and see if IT IS all original ..... fix the speedometer, already had the gas tank repaired and bled/adjusted the brakes ( new stuff to follow shortly--brakes are the ONE THING that HAS TO WORK - FIRST time-EVERY time ...) I CAN'T BELIEVE how NICE it is underneath for a 57 ANYTHING.....

You could probably retire if the right Japanese businessman sees that.
That is so nice. One of my all time favorite Pontiac/Olds cars.
