Gentlemen, I'm not 100% up to speed on what is best to use and save off of various 26-48 Fords.

I am building a 27 roadster, but do not have a ch***is yet. Plans are for an A based ch***is once I can find one within reasonable driving distance.

I have a chance at a full 37 flatback rolling ch***is and body. What is worth saving and utilizing?

I'm running fenderless, solid front dropped 2-4", plans for juice brakes, and 40-48 wheels. Trying to keep things simple and economical.

    Thanks for your help.

1937 Ford flatbacks make great hot rods,,buy it and save it for your next project,,don't cannibalize it if it's a nice car. HRP

  3. Patch it up and flip it and invest the profit in your roadster.

According to the seller its "in parts" right now, so I'm not sure how much is present. By all means, if its a reasonable car then I'd keep things intact. Flatbacks aren't appealing to me but I'd certainly p*** it along to another who has a p***ion for them.

***uming shes not salvagable, what is worth stealing for my roadster? No engine/trans is present. I do know that.

You could use the front and rear end under a model A frame.

I see most people sell 37-41 spindle replacements. Is there anything specifically special about these spindles?
How about the bones? How do they compare to other generations?
Brakes on a 37 are mech right?
Pedal ***embly? Steering box? Shifter ***embly? Cross member?

What about body parts and dash/gauges?

Sorry for the newb questions. Trying to ***ess what is worthwhile and trying to justify the costs of picking this one up.

The 37 Fords with 60 hp engines had tube axles. HRP

Don't screw with the '37. Leave it for someone who appreciates it.

I'd be interested in the complete dash board, if it comes to that. Gary
PS My 37 Fordor V8-60 was one of the ones that didn't get the tube axle, or I would have saved it.

I used a rear crossmember to flatten in my deuce frame. You could use it for trading. Some use the front spring on a rear buggy spring set up. The rearend is a nice piece for a Halibrand V8 conversion if you wish. Front wishbones, and spindles for sure.

The only thing I would pull would be the entire rear end, but then it wouldn't be a roller anymore and a bigger PITA to move around and sell. If you've got a 9" lying around that you mounted in there it would be a different story. Then you'd have something somebody would want again, not just a non-rolling project.

In a nutshell, what I'm saying is that unless you plan to replace what you harvest with other, desirable parts, p*** on the deal or buy it to flip.

  17. If the deck lid is good I would be interested and dash board too.

What to save from 37 flatback

easy answer: everything. there is nothing in a 37 anything that should not be saved. if you part one out the only thing that should be tossed would be rust and dirt....maybe the old tires or broken gl***.

Save all you can. If you don't have time for it. Hoard it away. I all ways seem to regret getting rid of stuff. I have two slant backs. One is a parts car for my coupe body. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1405637264.743654.jpg

DON'T part out the '37. The '37 slant back is as close as you can get to a Vicky.

Mine was fun. I liberated it from it's captivity from a garage in New Mexico. Drove it for 9 months, racked up over 12,000 miles, and turned it so I could make room for my '40 Stake Truck.

Guys, good news for all the slantback lovers, there is a 41 ford sedan at the same location that I can get for even cheaper. I feel less guilty parting it out at it's missing the bulk of critical items and has basically the same components that I need. Slantback looks to be going to a good home as well as there is another buyer.

Poor 41's, they get almost no love. I p***ed on a complete semi-basket-case last year for less than a grand and I still kinda regret it. It would have made a cool budget cruiser.

By critical items, do you meant trim, fenders, interior, etc? Do you have a picture of it?

What do you hope to get out of it?

Most interior is gone. Trim is removed and sitting inside cab. Lighting is gone. Flatty/trans missing. Fenders and sheet metal are reasonable and I'll attempt to resell before s****ing anything. Dash is good and has most trim. Steering wheel/column is usable. Seat frame is present.

Hoping to resell what I don't need and break out even for my investment.

I'm picking up tomorrow at 8 AM so should have photos Saturday night.
Its a roller so I'm using basically all the running gear bolted to the 41 frame on my 27 roadster.

Well then, your target market to resell the thing is going to most likely be a Street Rodder, who will want to put in IFS and a built up rear end with coil-overs, so I'd pull all the suspension, steering, and brakes. Hopefully it has the brakes on it because that's a major score.

You are the second person to say something similar. Thats actually my wife! Thinking its time to swap out the avatar for my 27.

Thanks for the tip. I would agree. Brakes should be present (fingers crossed). Owner said "shes a completely stock roller, just partially stripped."
