Looking to buy some inexpensive narrow whitewall tires to have them shaved to a larger white wall. any brand better than the other? any brand have a larger whitewall band ? looking to get a 2"-2 1/2" whitewall on a 205/75/15. I cant spend $175-$200 per tire, my financial advisor aka my wife would have a fit....

I think you can shave raised letter tires. I'll be watching this thread I'd like to do it or have it done for some tires for my Plymouth.

I used to own a gas station/ tire shop, and would shave tires sometines, Pep Boys Cornnell tires had a nice band of white rubber, the Cornell 803 had the best as far as turning the narrow wht wall into a wide wht wall, the raised white letter tires can be done also, and most times have the widest band of white rubber to be uncovered, Doyle Killabrew came out in about 1988 and shaved the tires for the fibergl*** Tucker's I worked on for the movie " Tucker", He also had a tire paint that he would apply for even color and to color the black section of the tire close to the wheel, ( the white rubber never goes to the bead) when He was done the tires looked great, I would suggest trying a few shot tires first, that way You can get some practice, ask around at some of the tire shops near You if You could haul away some junk tires to shave first, by the way most times I use an angle winder with a stone to start then switch to paper for the finish, and be careful the white rubber is not too thick, so watch out that You don't sand down to more black, I hope that helps, good luck. 7. I used FUTURA brand raised white letter tires when I did mine. Worked good, it's been a bit but they were $75 tires then.
They won't probably win a concours but- they like fine at 30 or 30'. I've been using Blechewhite (sp?) trying to brighten them up but I don't know if that's brand thing or just whitewalls across the board.

A buddy did a set and left just the big F U letters on and white walled the rest ;)

I bought this set of 235/75 R15 Hankook Radials about 3 months ago for my Merc. I have no intention of shaving them to get a wider white wall, and I don't know if it is even possible, but the tires were quite reasonable at $68 each. They come in many different sizes as well. Check out Tire Rack or similar website for sizing.
