My Son came over today and downloaded this little video that he took when I fired up the engine for the first time in the truck just to see if I was on the right track or not. I only ran it very briefly as I have yet to fit the rad and the alternator etc, but I know now its a go'er. Had the rear wheels spinning and the brakes working too. Now I know that I am..........., cause it starts and sounds great, Soooooo I'll crack on, but with a little less speed as I am carrying out a few modifications to my Center Door ready for my daughter's wedding in December. Any way see what you think my fellow COE'ers
Fellow Brit here in the States, dual citizen, military brat-Mum is English, Dad is a Yank. Looks like you and Esso are going to be great friends! I have been watching your other thread, your build is dedicated to say the least and absolutely awesome! Your giving me lots of inspiration. Steve
Looks and Sounds good. However, you seemed to have installed that Chevy engine backwards, the distributor is supposed to be in the back...HA
Sounds nice Al. It's an unusual build around here, a Ford with a Ford engine and a COE as a cab over engine. I can only think of three on this site.
Thanks Tony, I know its unusual, but I just wanted to go that way. Also I have run a Ford 302 in my Center Door since I built it back in 1980, for the 60deg angle of the engine and the distributor at the front allowed me to keep it all under the Center Door hood, I have found the same with the truck.
Actually Al, the small block Ford is a 90 degree engine. It may look like a 60 degree engine because the deck height is so low. I personally chose the SBF because it is a Ford and externally one of the smallest V8 engine out there. It weighs a mere 460lbs in all iron form. Aluminum heads and intake takes it down to a very light 410lbs. It also fits under the stock doghouse. Keeping my Coe a true cab over engine was a must.
Tony, Your right, don't know my 6's from my 9's, as you have said it is a small V8 which is what I, and you obviously wanted to keep um in the doghouse..
