Picked up our '54Thames ET6 just a week or so ago, which unfortunately broke down on the way home and had to be recovered, no biggie and we're looking forward to getting he back on the road, but this will give us some time to start to tidy the interior of the cab, fit new seats, fit some sound deadening, paint etc. and dress up the engine. Seems like she blew the O-rings on the liners (oil in the water without turning the engine over) Looking for a bit of help with the torque settings for the engine bolts - head, shells etc. if anyone can help?
Can not say I ever seen one before and I thought the cab was small on my 37 Chevy p/u,can you post some pics of the motor as I am curious on what powers it.
Nice truck. They saying goes; Pictures, or it did'nt happen. Now we know it happend, know show us more, so we know all about it. :-D Is it the same truck Greengr*** drow in Heartbeat? Or is that a British Bedford? What engine? Gas or Diesel?
It's powered by (or will be when we get it running again) the same 3.6litre (220 cubic inch) 4 cylinder diesel engine that is in the Fordson Major Tractors, although apparently it's configured differently for these trucks. I'll get some pictures of the lump for you during the week and post them up, will have some of the work we're doing to the interior at the same time hopefully. Never watched Heartbeat so I don't know what he drove - will have to see if Google does
That makes it an Perkins engine? Where are you from? If you haven't seen heartbeat your ain't from England, LOL. The télévision show that goes on in northern England, in late '50s til late-60s. The most wonderful cars and etc/misc. Stuffed in one tv-series, with all the nostalgia one can mustard, but with almost no hot rods, dragsters or g***ers. But still good show. But OT regarting you lovely truck. I've got a 55 Bedford A5 on the backburner, it's supposed to be turned in to a shop truck, but still with the drop side bed on it. I'm looking so much forward to seeing more of this truck!
No, Not a Perkins - Apparently some were (the earlier ones?), but they had the 4 rings symbol on the grill. The changed them to the Fordson/Ford lump later on. Engine revs out at 2,750rpm MAX, not huge BHP, but the Torque is incredible - You can do 20mph in 4th, 1st is pointless unless you want to pull your house down. I'm from the Uk, 'A Limey' through and through, but lived in France for nearly ten years. Heartbeat was on when I was a kid and really wasn't my thing back then, Now back in Cambridgeshire. This'll be a slow burner,we brought it primarily to tow a horse box with my son's horse in, then joined this awesome forum to get ideas really, only just 'found' the 'Rod style by watching the US imports like Sin City Motors etc, but am already really inspired by the idea of the shop trucks.
The fordson engine does- nice job in the fordson, so should do the same in that. Looks real solid. So not many issues with it? I thought it ran again and again on your side. Like on mine, I'm from Denmark. I love all things 50s/60s, stock, mild or wild. Even the way of living/behaving/close and your houses are so nice. But hot rods is the iceing on the cake for me. ;-) I'm planning on going dark blue and red. Just like yours. But I plan on making frame, axels, wheels, front, fenders and bumper red. Then grill, hood, cab and bed, dark blue. Are you in to old trucks in general, or does this just serve a purpose and the price was right? Will you make your on bed, and then pull a horsetrailer, or will you make a body on the truck for horses?
She solid as a rock, few blemishes in the paint that may (or may not) get done, Engine is bone simple and still runs, just not with the emulsified oil in the bottom! Most of the work going on at the moment is inside the cab, where it'll mostly be Black and Red. It doesn't show to well in that photo, but the frame, axels etc are already red and I don't really plan too many changes to the outside at the moment, we'll just hook up and horse trailer and be done. Wasn't really in to old trucks as such as in general British trucks don't exactly have a lot of character and don't last that long in our weather, but this one came up at the right time (I was looking for a project) at the right money (Kinda) and I really like to look of the Diamond T haulers from across the pond.
Sound great! Patiently waiting for more pictures. Such a unmolested truck! They are rare over here. Both the thames and unmolested trucks ;-)
Year I know, my wife says the same thing. LOL That is in such a great shape! We rarely see that good truck around! Unless they been restored already. Is this a non finished project truck you found? Looks a Dodge Fargo with a different grill on it. Realy nice! I'm really excited for you, is it showing? ;-) And wish it was me.
Today's news - We got the head and the sump off today and found that we've got a crack in cylinder liner number 4, being the same engine as the Fordson tractor parts should not be a problem and the emails have gone out! With luck, we should have her back on the road in a week or two.
Well, it took slightly longer than we'd envisaged, but we got her running this weekend a-fter (near enough) a rebuild. Sounded sweet and was a hell of a relief. The delay has meant that I've managed to get a lot more done inside than I was expecting to - not finished, but closer. Pictures to follow if there is interest? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Took a week's leave this week and managed to get some more bit's done on the old girl: Switches are straight even though they don't look it from the photo's (trust me - I'm a bit OCD about these things!) It's not finished, but looks better than the last version - needs a more appropriate rotary switch etc. Hoping to make progress on the headliner next and could really do with some advice from any experts on which coolant/anti freeze to use (hint!)
