Dans Polishing and Chrome Adamsville TN. Great work, triple plated. Count on twice the turnaround time they tell you. http://danspolishingandchrome.com/
I haven't had anything replated yet, but I did exchange both bumpers with the Bumper Shop - http://www.thebumpershop.com/ Their online reputation isn't that great, but I had a good experience with them. I called them to place my order and did the exchange about a month later at the Good Guys show in Pleasanton.
Today 05:21 PM clustrfck I haven't had anything replated yet, but I did exchange both bumpers with the Bumper Shop - http://www.thebumpershop.com/ Their online reputation isn't that great, but I had a good experience with them. I called them to place my order and did the exchange about a month later at the Good Guys show in Pleasanton. I exchanged with them also and neither bumper lined up right with the mounts. They also gave me one wrong bumperette. When I got my car back from the body shop about 1½ years later and went to mount the bumpers, the Bumper Shop wouldn't work with me to solve the problems. I would suggest getting your parts chromed rather than exchanging for already chromed units.
Hey guys....thought I'd try and piggyback on a pre-existing thread before creating a new one. I want to finally put some effort into the appearance of the trunk on my '55 Fairlane Club. The chrome trunk molding (sits under the Fairlane script above the trunk lid....runs the length of the trunk) has seen better days. A lot of bubbling, etc. Does anyone know of a shop that's perhaps brought this specific part back to life in the past? It's got both the chrome as well as the painted rectangles, so it's a bit more intricate then I'd expect some parts are. It'd be very appreciated if anyone could point me in the right direction!
Advance Plating handled all my plating on the wagon with the exception of the front & rear bumpers. They were done by Tri-City Plating in Elizabethan,Tennessee. I couldn't be happier with ether one of these company's. HRP
Here in West Australia, chrome plating is only done by three metro based shops. I have heard varying comments on the quality of work but the one that shines through is that is a very expensive process. One piece bumpers cost way upwards of $1300 each and only two of the shops will do them. My experience with caroming here is that it is not real good. I have had chrome flake whilst tightening the bumper bolts. For this reason I am going the Alsa Mirrachrome paint method. At least if it gets scratched I can just touch it up like ordinary automotive paint. It ends up with a finish like polished aluminium rather than chrome.
I've used Plating Specialties in Grand Junction, CO for chrome work and pot metal restoration. While pricy the results have been very good. And @ Metal Ghost: Depending on how pitted your trunk molding is be prepared for a very hefty bill due to its very intricate details. This video gives you an idea of the hand work involved:
Apparently there was problems with either the chroming of the new part or the reproduction of the part itself....??? I can't find it new anywhere. Does anyone have any leads on where I might be able to find this part new? T-Bird Products had it but do not anymore and are not sure if/when they will again. Any other ideas? Any help on where to find new would be greatly appreciated!! (for recap....I'm talking about part b5a-7042512-a , the trunk lid molding on a '55 Fairlane Club Sedan).
A shot in the dark, but since you have the part number, call Antique Auto Supply in Arlington, Texas. They're old school..don't use computers, may or may not be on their inventory lists, but if you leave them the PN, they'll get back with you in a few days...like I said..old school (slow). He doesn't do much advertising, but has a half dozen or so buildings filled to the brim. Great place to spend a few hours brousing for anyone in that area. Some used, mostly nos Rich
You can also try Tody Gorny, he is a co-founder of the Crown Victoria ***ociation. If he doesn't have it he'll probably know who does. F R Parts Store 800-367-8536 www.frpartsstore.com Call for a free catalog.
Another extremely knowledgeable Ford guy that has a bunch of 55-56 Ford parts is Norbert Doll out of Glencoe, Oklahoma. Between Norbert and Stacy Brown at already mentioned Antique Auto Supply you probably have a reasonable chance of finding one.
Nope....just spoke with him (very nice gentlemen), and he told me the same thing T-Bird Products said: manufacturer is having chrome problems, and he's not sure when/if they'll have them again. So the page just hasn't been updated. D'oh!!
