    I don't think it's NOS. You can see paint on the jambs in the C/L ad pics;
    http://southjersey.craigslist.org/cto/4581468650.html

If I needed one, I'd just cut one from the back of a Sedan and add jambs. Seen it done several times with Model A and 32 Sedan to Delivery conversions.

I realize 32-34 parts are expensive, but I think the seller is "out of touch" along with dreamers asking $3500 for 32-34 frames, etc. lately.

I'd rather buy this full 33/34 panel delivery for almost half that: http://canadianrodder.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15754

Don't worry. I'll be around buying it all up. Those storage units will be my playground.

He probably paid 25 bucks for it 45 years ago. As was said, it's why few youngins are getting into fabrication and vintage builds. The teens down my street bought a pos Nissan for nada and sunk a grand and some labor into making a quick little *******. 8 grand for a damn door, that's a greedy damn shame.

Hmmm.... $8500 that's nuts. reckon if ya went and bought a sheet of panel steel ($52 here NZ) and a couple of sheets of MDF ($60 a sheet) spend a weekend building a buck, do some wheeling and a little bead rolling and a little hammering around the window aperture and there you go one rear door skin. total cost under $ 200 . that's why I'm building my own 28 roadster total cost so far $286 dollars for buck and panel steel complete front to B pillar and now working on rear 1/4 panels and wheel wells. If you want a look check NZ hot rod magazine, forums > your project > 28 Desoto pickup. (last page or two)

We are living through yet another wave of greed and ignorance. Entrepreneurs who don't give a flying fig about our hobby, and are all about money, have driven up prices of vintage parts. They lack vision and a real understanding of commerce. By asking astronomical sums, they don't make a sale, and end up sitting on parts. Unfortunately, they haven't figured out that if you overprice it, it won't sell. How simple is that?

  7. That is insanely expensive, i have less than than in my rust free '28 roadster body.. and half of it is brookville. Not to mention, the whole thing is steel.. AND its in Australia no less.

On the side topic of guys asking $3500 for a '32 frame being outrageous.. There is one on ebay here for $4000 AUS.. with some hacked looking X frame in it.. an original bare one for $5000 and another for $7500 thats rolling with no engine trans or tires (its rolling on wire wheels).

Stuff is ridiculously expensive over here.

There is plenty of young guys (myself included at 25) interested in this old ****.. but hardly anyone seems to actually have a hot rod. Some have Model A projects but no one could afford a '32 let alone '33 - '36 or god forbid a '40 coupe or something.

Prices are indeed up on just about everything. I just paid $340 for a gallon of clear urethane. That doesn't justify someone trying a gouge on something though. The bright side of high prices? What's your **** worth now? Search everything and look for "sold" listings. Up just under 50% from about 3yrs ago. I don't lament too hard over the cost of things and the "damage" to the hobbyist. If the bus of high prices goes by and you miss it, too bad. In '06 you couldn't pay enough for some cars. The bubble where a lot of the money came from had to burst, but it didn't take long for smart and savvy collectors/investors to recognize Tangible ***ets. Art, cars with real significance, antiques of all types, things some pimple-faced financial whiz kid can't manipulate like real estate and hedge funds. As you decry the $100 fuel pump or vintage starter try to remember what you just paid for a gallon of gas. How much more does it cost to bring all that **** to market? I'm not driving from Motown to Hershey, PA for a couple hundred bucks any longer, now it's more like $500 round trip. And no, I can't fit all the stuff I take in a Prius or some other econo box. Play along or cry the blues, it's up to you, the buyer or seller. Still, that door is way too much considering the speed a which one could be fabbed these days, but then again you might need a $500 print to do it right!

  9. Sometimes the seller is appeasing a spouse - "why don't you sell that blah blah you'll never use it, it's taking up space blah blah blah." So an ad can be shown to the loudmouth to shut her up,

    High? What's new?
When the hobby shifted from enthusiast to investor, the writing was on the wall. Now if you wanna dance, you gotta pay the piper. I agree that door is high.

Is that what a door looks like? Thought it was the back of a sedan.

I have noticed around here. That you are not going to find anyone to pay the high prices. People invest in cows around here and not cars. Cars an tons of pickups are still sitting around. And no one around here wants anything to do with a flathead. You can allways find them. And a hundred buck will usually buy the complete motor and trans out of a old car or truck. And fifty bucks for one that's sitting in a shed or barn. Sometimes someone watches to much tv auction and thinks theirs is worth a bunch. And it never moves. I think the real high prices are regional. And prices can be high in the big cities here in Texas.

It's probably a typo. $850 is probably what the seller meant to type.

There's more than a few folks trying to sell their stuff for moon money. Up my way, someone wants $2500 for a Model T windshield.

for that price you could buy the materials and the tools to build one yourself, and still have some money left over...along with some nice new tools.

Prices will always be based on greed.
They will go up, or down, depending on how much you participate.

Agreed. Hell all you have to do is cut out the back of a sedan and make the rest. Wouldnt be that hard.

  18. Just for the outer skin, and his ad does not mention the vertical crease through the belt line and it has rust through pin holes....

Yes it is a little high, looks to be pretty solid but not solid gold.

A few months ago, there were several 55-57 Chevy four doors on the Tulsa area Craiglist , that were priced like two doors. An oldtimer created a listing basically telling those guys to get real and that they would not get that kind of price out of a four door sedan. I don't think that was too popular with the sellers.

I cannot blame a guy for trying, but some of these prices are really out there.

I've noticed that too. They must be doing enough of them on TV for folks to think they've got rusty gold rotting behind the shed. I've seen ads with a reasonable price only to click on them and see that they want that for a cut off PIECE of a cab, not the entire, already cut-up cab itself.

Seems to be a ton of guys asking really stupid money for things, even on the cl***ifieds here. Think I blame it on the Johnny come lately folks who are used to paying pro shop prices for a friggin Hot Rod. I guess the good news is that they will all have power boats next week.

Not everyone has that skill. Even if they did, it wouldn't be Henry Ford steel.....some guys want the real deal and nothing else. That can cost mucho moolah.

I don't think anybody is actually SELLING at those prices, but they sure do ask. Most of the sky high listings I've seen have been up for months.

Certainly not me. If I think someone's asking twice what I'd pay for something I don't even bother. It's not worth someone getting all agitated with you and they're probably not going to come down to even a high retail price anyway so it's a waste of time. If I want to buy stuff cheap, I just buy bulk lots that someone just needs gone or place low bids on eBay & roll the dice.

Hell, I bought one about that long ago for 5 bucks..and it still was attached to a pretty damn nice '33 delivery, complete minus flatty. I still have the grille emblem. That price is nuts..
