Looking for help on possible sources of wheels.

I have been told that 1953 – 54 International 1/2 T or 1963-64 Dodge 1/2T wheels, 15” with 5 lug bolt pattern have the 4 1/2" bolt pattern and look like and will mount hub caps from 1940s Fords.

What other years also work?

Will these wheels clear disk brakes?

I know disk brakes are not traditional, but the car will be a driver and I think they will give me a bit more stopping power. 1930 A coupe with a 425 Buick, will need all the help I can give it.

    Thanks for the help.

Are you just looking for a plain steel wheel with the correct pattern?

Ford Bronco 2 Aerostar came with a 15"x6 spare tire that will accept a dog dish cap.

5x 4½ pattern. Some 80's chyslers came with the same wheel..Diplomat, Monaco.

Fairley easy to find in the boneyards.

50's Ford and Chryslers had the 5 x4½ pattern as well in a plain steel wheel.

Jeep cherokee sports/ grand came with a 16"x 3½ spare that looks killer. They don't have provisions for mounting a cap though.

It's a matter of trying to find a 15" wheel that has the right style, bolt pattern and hub cap mounting all combined, along with compatability with disk brakes. 15" x 4 1/2. 40-48 Ford hub cap. 40-48 Ford styling to the wheel centre.

This is Wheel Vintiques catalog.......go down to the 14 series.....

They make 15 inch rims...your width and backspace and they will fit on disc brake rotors....

I have bought a couple sets over the years......NEW..... :D

41-48 Chrysler and dodge are 16 and have the 4 1/2 pattern. They also take the ford cap. Jay

The IH wheels will clear the mid-'70s chevy disk brakes (the big ones for sure and probably the metrics, as well). They do take the ford cap, but the cap will sit farther away from the mounting surface than they would on a ford wheel. Kind of hard to explain.

The dodge wheels have much shorter vents and don't look as good IMHO, but few people will know the difference.

The IH wheels look more like early ford wheels, vents and all. Note also that the IH wheels come in both 15" and 16" diameters.
Hmmm....let me dig around a little...I have some pictures here somewhere....

Well, I don't have any useful pictures showing the vents, but here's a couple of shots of an IH wheel dressed and nekkid. These are 15s and are mounted on '76 Volare rotors with the early 70s chevy calipers.

Studebakers also have the small Ford pattern. I'm not sure if any would accept the Ford hubcaps. The pair I have won't, but maybe some of the other Studebakers would???

the wheels pictured above are Ford Bronco 2 spare tires (non styled steel). They grow on trees at the boneyards.

    15"x 6 and will accept a 10" hub cap

You may want to call Bill Harrison at VaVaVoom Garage, 204.248.2221 before 8AM or after 9PM in Altamont, Mb. I was there last summer checking out his cars/parts and it is the best I have seen for 20yrs. He has ~450 cars/trucks back to the 20s ... ending in the ~60s. He also has a large collection of parts ... which is probably what you are after as he is reluctant to start parting out his 'complete' cars/trucks. I 'browsed' his Model A garnish molding collection (100+) and selected a complete set for my sedan. He has wheels stacked by the dozens of all makes and models.

I will return after winter passes and snap some pics for the group .... I have to go back for open drive banjo, front/rear bumpers, etc. Great fun!!

Feel free to PM me if you need more info.

    Later,
    papa al
