Has anyone gotten it done for 30s and 40s cars? I called a few area locksmiths and they couldn't help me (1931 Ford). I know I can replace them with repos but I would like to keep the originals, just because. Can you send them away to someone? Has anyone used someone local to them that I can mail them to?

here it is... It might be a h***le or a fun learning experience depending on what kind of person you are
There are guys on fordbarn that will sell you an original set with keys for a reasonable price. just either do a search or post in the wanted section.
Have reworked many lock cylinders , not much to it. You can swap tumblers , reshape the key or leave out certain tumblers if necessary. Once you have done one the mystery will be gone and you will see how very basic most lock cyls are.
The process is known as "impressioning" a key if you're still looking for a locksmith to tackle the job for you.
