Someone drove straight into my 53 Chevy that was parked on the street. Luckily I was able to stop them before taking off. The adjuster asked me to send him a list of repro parts and he would " see what he can do". I need a new bumper and grille. On top of that , something shorted when she hit me and I only have power to half the truck so it will not start. It's also bagged, and is a major pain in the *** at this point to lift it up. Anyone have experience with finding original parts and the insurance paying for it to be painted and rechromed? I'm having difficulty even finding them. Just looking for a little advice before I contact then adjuster back. We both had geico, and mine is not cl***ic. I had it insured as a daily.
I wish you all the luck in the world but if you had it insured as a daily and not a specified dollar amount I'm afraid you may be in for a battle if your luck is like mine. I was rear ended in my 40 sedan 20 years ago and it took almost a year to get a settlement and it still cost me to repair the car. Insurance is a PITA,but when you need it you need a company that stands with you. HRP
do not forget to included shipping, and insurance companies have a hardtime with older cars as parts are expensive and not in computer data bases as is repair costs.. and get estimated only from antique restorers or pro hot rod shops. local regular body shops cant really quote the stuff.
you need to establish value .there are lots of ways to do this then when you get a repair estimate then you have what you need to deal with the insurance company. insured as a daily makes the car worth less but not that bad since they are at fault..Dave
Being that it is a 53 you can find repo sheet metal that is good quality very easy. I would try to find a body shop that deals with old cars. You have the right to choose who repairs your car.
