Why thank you good sir! No no, ***** sniffers have been held at bay for the night.

Now remember, if I can find a correct Chevy hood for a 55 Pontiac, I'm going to try and sweet talk Ragdoll out of hers.........since she doesn't want to run hood straps ANWAYS. Because I'm a THINKIN girl!;) :D Course, she don't know it yet. But she will!:D

    brandy,

this isn't terribly important, but is useful:

if you can obtain a piece of metal from a similar car, i.e., s****s from when someone chopped one, or a spare damaged body part (did that sound right?) like a hood, fender, etc., you will have metal of the same thickness and alloy composition as what you're patching. this will be a bit easier to weld on and probably will work out somewhat better.

i know that many customs have been built using whatever metal was available, and you can do the same, but use the same metal if you can.

Look carefully, for example, a convex corner of the roof can be flipped over. The inside surface of that roof corner is now facing out when installed in the hood.

Dayum, Brandy!! I've got a decent hood on my '55 parts car, but it's a long way from Bakersfield. Don't think the '55 Chevy will work on Ragdoll's car tho', the lower front is totally diff, if my remembery serves correctly. ;)

On them smaller area's you could use a drill, and drill-out the rust and leave yourself a nice little round hole. go back with a mig welder and fill in the holes, then grind 'em smooth. Them larger spots will require a larger patch obviously.

Eww! Now that's an idea I can sink my teeth into! Thanks Von.

Ponch, she wants to run an Olds grill anyways. So I'm thinkin she's gunna have some fab work on her hands as it is........maybe I can alleviate her of some of the work? Either way, it's a good idea to check into, see if I can spare a Pontiac hood from a mud filled death.:D

can ya have the hood dipped, that would kill all the rust on it & then u'd be able to reapir the holes w/o having to cut a lot of metal out... just an idea...joe

  11. Bad pix, but before I sol.d the Pontiac, you can see I had the same problem with the same car in the same spot.

Yeah, B, think the Chebby hood would work, side and back anyhow, for RD, lotta fab work in the grill area though. As for yours, think I'd just try cleaning the rust out and dura-glas or something like that, hell, it'd last 10 or 15 years.

HA! Now I KNOW what your diabolical mind has been up to!

As much as I am aching for some front end mods (for the car), now that Skratch laid those lovely lines on the hood, it kicked my motivation for doing something about it down to zero! But, if ya come up with a good solution (and I'll just HAVE to redo the paint, DARN. GOtta search up Skratch for more lines too...), I'll be happy to send the hood your way. I'm not digging the straps. Now about that olds front, that's dropped to second choice...I've fallen in love with a front end treatment that has Mac shaking his head. I say who cares? HIS car is done...right???

Sorry I'm a little tardy in adding my 2 cents to the mix, but I've been in B.F.E. again with SLOOOW dial-up.

If it works side and back, then that should be just fine...what I want will need the lip reworked anyhow.

Damn girl! If ya had wanted to see me naked THAT bad........we coulda showered together at Billetproof!;) :D

I'm going to try and repair MY hood..........but in the meantime, I'm still going to double check on that Chevy hood. That way it'll save you some fab time with the grooves and I'll sweet talk myself into a new hood incase the rest of mine rots off the car. If you have to rework the lip, might as well do that and not create more work with filling the hood straps in.

As for Skratch, weeeeeeeeeel I can round him up.:D
