Where can I find black steelies for a 65 f100? I believe the bolt pattern is 5x5.5. Also the spider cap. Thanks! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
When I was at the local independent tire store a few weeks ago, I asked to look at the used wheels out back, they had several steel wheels for Chevy 6 lug trucks (which is what I was interested in), $18 apiece. They even had some from the 50s.
If you buy new aftermarket steelies, take my advice and check the runout BEFORE painting, powdercoating or mounting tires, so you can return them if they are ****. I learned this lesson the hard way. After about 7,000 miles of watching my front wheels hop at speed even though they were perfectly balanced, I found a steel wheel guru nearby in Holtwood PA. He mounted the bare wheels on a hub and after a session with his 3# hammer they're a bit more round. Not really round but better, and the powder coating wasn't even damaged. This guy has been doing this for 30 years and he got them as good as he could but they still hop a little above 65 mph. Amazingly, he wouldn't take any money for his work, He's in the wheel business but he said he enjoys helping people out and he wasn't sure he made them much better.
If your in California there is a place in long beach that has these powder coated black. I also have the original set that came off my 61 f100 with all fomoco stamps on em that I would be willing to sell local pick up though. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Probably the nearest K-mart or Wal-mart where they sell spray paint. My driver I wire brushed and sprayed the wheels with Rustoleum. A couple of them have several winters with road salt on them and still look okay. The other set just has one winter on it and still looks like I just painted them.
