I made these yesterday for a customer/buddy. I personally went for more flush fit that follows the body closely instead of a bubble skirt that I see all the time. What's your opinion on the style, shape and fit? I modeled them after Lincoln continental style skirts. What do you think a pair of hand built skirts are worth? I welcome all criticism. i like them. as far as price,do you have a shop rate or is this something on the side? otherwise shop rate x hrs + material =your cost more economical if you make them in batches of 5+ then time comes down and final price to customer becomes more attractive.
Thanks for reply. I do have a shop rate of 75$. I probably have I have under or around 7 - 8 hours in both with the time needed to build the buck and make mounts. Minimal material cost. If I made a second set it would prolly take less time as I overthought the process a bit. I am going to knock out a few more sets this weekend. Auto restoration is a full time job for me and I have work coming out of my ears at the moment. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Price aside, I would have liked to see a tech. thread on them. Can we see some pics of the back side?...they look great.
I have some Fibergl*** Repop Skirts for my 48 Chopped Coupe but I rarely run them as they are bulky , I like yours much better* Good Job *
I don't know much about the demand for skirts for '48 but I can give you an example of a skirt I bought on e-bay. I paid $325 for some for a '35 Ford. Skirts for a '35 are hard to find since it seems they are a one year deal. Someone made them and put them on e-bay. They were o.k. but were made flat. I took them apart and rolled a convex to them with an English wheel. I think they look good now but they needed some shape to them. So I don't know if that helps you any but that is an example what is out there. Neal
Its been a long time, but I finally found some more photos of me in action making these skirts. I would be more then happy to answer any tech questions.
