**even Car Designers Have Bad Days**

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Jeff Norwell, Jan 12, 2006.

  1. The Chrysler Norseman featured a cantilevered roof which did not require A-pillars. Intended to be the premiere show car of 1957, it went down with the Andrea Doria in July of 1956 en route from Ghia in Italy.

    Sidenote:
Ghia took the stylings from Chrysler and copied it to the Karman Ghia which is a scaled down version of one of the Chrysler concept cars.

That looks like the Ed Roth "Wishbone".
If it's the Roth car, it's the one Ed didn't like to the level of he cut it up and tossed it in the dumpster from where someone (Doug?) stole it back out and reassembled.
I think it's built on a stripped VW frame center "wishbone" and engine.
    Nutin' GM about it.

I got that pic off a site filled with Detroit concept cars.
But all the text is in some language I cant read (looks like Polish, maybe )
They listed the Predicta as a Detroit Concept car as well, so I knew that wasn't right.
But finding the pics of that Plymouth made it all worth it...:)

Those Pedestrian Killers© sticking out the front look at least similar to some of the Syd Mead (one of my few heros) designs from the 50's and 60's.

It ain't your fault if someone gives you faulty information...

Now that I've looked at it, I may be wrong too.
I don't think the Roth car had the bubble top.
    At least it doesn't now.
It's not the same, it's just a similar idea with a similar front suspension.
But Syd did do several drawings of cars with the Space Ship Spears© motif.

The green one with the white painted trim stripe is the Plymouth Explorer. It was one of Exner's designs built by Ghia. I've seen it in person and sat in it. It is a stunning car in the flesh (metal?). As of three years ago, it was owned my Robert Petersen of Petersen Publishing and the Peteresen Automotive Museum fame. This is why you never see it around.

  13. The stiletto with the prongs sticking out front was built by Bill Gerstner in Buffalo NY as a show car for the ISCA. Just now thought of the name.

    Thanks!

Do you know if it still exists?

  15. I have no idea, but of all the cartoon cars of the seventies, I always was kinda intrigued by this one.
