Side work funded 28-29 RPU build.

  1. COME TO THE MODIFIED SIDE!

You can always mount a fold down rack to lash your duffel bag onto for a road trip (that was my plan). If you go with the 235, which would get you going cheap and fine IMO. Then you could spend the money on speed parts! Dual carb intakes for 235's are out there and you can still buy them new if one doesn't fall into your lap. I think I have a pair of GM Rochester 1bbl carbs of similar vintage that could work too; I just got back from Maine and I bought a TON of carbs, distributors, wiper motors & smalls that I'm still sorting.

The downside of using the 235 is I'll have to do most of the work to put a 350 and power glide in the wife's grandfathers 52 Chevy.
If I run it I'll let you know and maybe I'll buy 1-2 if those 1bbl's off you. I'll have enough room after reversing the Firewall. Cut the bottom off my cowl tank and shaved 10+ lbs of rats nest and metal.

  3. I bet you might end up doing work on that 52 Chevy regardless! So there's probably not much of a downside there. I'll pm you a partial list of what I've got for carbs. I think inlines look pretty boss in a Modified personally.

I have a cut cowl tank that's still dropping acorn shells all over my shop every time I trip over it.

Your right, I'll end up doing it either way. . I tried to barter him out of the car already once. It's identical to this just stock height and needs full floors. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1407254039.581687.jpg

  5. I'm thinking that 235 is the way to go man. It's in the family already and free/labor certainly fits the budget's theme for the build. Just let the idea simmer and grow on you a bit. I think you'll end up liking it AND you'll probably get on the road MUCH faster!

Thanks. It was fun to build. Bought new hardware to replace the china crap at a hardware store that is going out of business today. I'll sand and paint it one day when I get bored.

Rode in this today and nearly got wood. Cool old dude that owns Freeman's garage in MA. He checked out my project and said. " oh that's rolling bones style". Haha. Guy knows his model A stuff, it had a police head, light flywheel and all kinds of cool shit. 6.0 front and 7.0 rear on wires like I'll run.

Seems your a little surprised on "older" guy knowing hot rod stuff. His shop might be a cool place to hang out.

Not surprised. STOKED. Cool guy for sure. I met two other cool "older than me" hot rod guys this week also, vtwhead and his pal Bruce. Bruce has a damn store house of flatheads and 2 bad ass V8-60's. One of them in a dirt track roundy round. . RPU guy has been staying at the newly renovated inn down from my house for the race up equinox mountain which is walking distance from my house. Also found out the Inn owners would be interested in buying my house and owning the whole damn road.

Looking back I've always spent the most of my time with people older than me. When I was 16-17 I was traveling around with my dad's friend to street races in central California and Phoenix during the weekends. Then I'd build my car after school during the week. Now At 29 I wish I lived closer than 1600+ miles from my dad because he'd be right next to me building anything late at night.

I know the feeling (just the other way). My son (20 years older than you) lives in Toronto and I live in Colo.

Bummer huh. My grandpa who I worked for for years said, eventually you'll get older and not be around. True as shit. Now he lived behind my dad and they do all the fun stuff in Mississippi.

No he was actually staying at the Inn at the end of my road in Vermont. He has been staying there every year for probably 15+ years. I stopped by to check it out and ended up taking to him for a while. Then he swung by my house and checked out my micro shop and project. Cool guy, his wife was very nice also.

So haven't done any work on the car other than move it from my old house to its new home. Finally finished and moved into my new house 3.5 miles away from the old one. Haven't built a garage yet but I have a 1350 sq foot full basement with 7' wide French doors for now.

The new family compound. Lots of little things and landscape to do. 50 acres of Deere hunting awesomeness.

Swapped all my Model a parts for this 52'. Floors and rockers are garbage but the new ones are piled inside. Has full running gear with the 6 in it still. Ran 10 years ago. New biased plys and the seat frames are there with rotted cloth.

Haha. The odd are I'll probably end up back with it because he hasn't touched a darn car in over 8 years. Going to try and crank it over Friday and start ripping the floor out. And make it low.
