I want to get Photo shop so I can work with photos of my car, any advice? Which version is the easiest to learn and work with?

    Thanks for any help.

If you've got the money, buy the full version. If funds are tight, go for Photoshop Elements. If you start out with Elements and later find it restrictive you can always upgrade to the full version. You will not have wasted any learning as all the tools in Elements are available in the full version.

If you are taking digital photos of your car in RAW format, you will need the full version I think.

Yep. Photoshop is expensive. If you can find a copy of 6.0, that'll do ya fine for playin' around. Much earlier and you'll get pretty frustrated eventually, but 6 has pretty much everything you'll ever need unless you're doing production work.

As far as learning how to use it, play around, check out tutorials...you'll either get it or ya won't!

before you try photoshop, try http://gimp.org/windows/

gimp is free and has everything full blown versions of photoshop has (some say more). Some say it is a bit difficult to learn, but for the price give it a shot before you lay out any money for photoshop.

I've got the GIMP, it was free, it's very in-depth, I figured it out. **** paying for ****, money is better spent on parts.

Heck, I use MS Paint for most of my photo-hackery!!!:D

(It takes a little patience, and trial and error...but you can do some cool stuff once you learn how to work the program)

GIMP is the best for the price, but you may also want to check out Paint Shop Pro (http://www.jasc.com). I've used for over ten years and it does 99.9999% of what Photoshop does and it only costs $99. The workflow and layout of the app also works better for me than Photoshop.

I'm a professional photographer and use photoshop CS2 all the time but for most personal projects I could get by with lots less bells and whistles...that being said, I would tell you to go with photoshop elements as the tools you learn will all translate to the full version of photoshop should your needs change. I would also go with the newest version you can because they have made things lots easier with each new version.

If you want to go with the full version from the get go, find a college student or a teacher who can get the education discount on the full version. I took a beginning Photoshop cl*** at my local Community College when I was just learning and was able to buy the full version for about 1/4 of the going rate, plus I learned the fundamentals from the instructor...I wasn't worried about any grade so I just worked on my own stuff. Plus it gave me an in with the photo department so I was able to use film scanners to scan some of my old drag racing photos so I could photoshop them.

our sign dept has been running PhotoShop 6 and Illustrator 10 since they came out and we've found no need to upgrade yet. I do all my work in PS6

wish all the work I've done for my job was web hosted, but here's some personal examples:

this one I just drew up this morning testing color schemes for my "a"

I've got Photoshop 5.5. the program does way more than I'll probably ever need, but it's nice to now the capability is there. Photoshop doesn't have to be expensive. Got mine from Amazon.com, paid $75 for a new, unopened, never registered cd with the user guide.
