Has anyone run the OE style hot rod steel wheel from Speedway ? Thoughts, Quality? I like the fact that they have only 5 lugholes instead of dual pattern like Wheel Vintiques. I'm building a 31 truck and considering running with no hubcaps. Thanks, Mark
Never used their wheels but at least my comment will get you back to top, and I don't like those dual bolt patterns even with huib caps, as it seems to me they could be weaker in side loading (in a sharp, fast turn). Lots of folks kick Speedway but I've found their stuff to be as good as most of the rest of today's crop of speed shop stuff.
They look like they are identical, if not the same as US Wheel's OEM style wheels sold through Summit. I doubt Speedway is making their own wheels, probably just re-branding like they do on lots of things in their catalogue. Nothing wrong with it either...
Wheel Vintiques 64 series chrome steel wheels have only one bolt pattern and take factory style 10 1/4" (?) hubcaps. I just bought a set from Summit, 15x5 and 15x8 and they are very nice, even the area around the lug nuts is nicely polished and plated. They were also cheaper than Speedway and shipped free (over $99 order). I like Speedway and buy a lot of their stuff but Summit won out this time.
Summit drop ships from their Sparks, Nevada warehouse and I get it next day! Excellent service, never a question on a bad part. Good as Sears!
Thanks for the reply's. I ordered my Wheel Vintiques for my last project from Summit, I'll have to check out those US wheels from them. They sure beat Speedways shipping $. later, Mark
It's alive... IT's ALIIIIVE!!! Bumping this Zombie thread as the ***le is most appropriate. Speedway Motors offers up their O/E Style Hot Rod Raw Steel Wheels in 15x5. A partial smoothie design with the three nubs for 10-1/8" hubcaps. Has anyone used these wheels? I like the subtle look of being a 'stock' steelie without the 'vents'. Just wondering if anyone has tried these wheels and had any problems with them. I looked a the US Wheel.. wheels; 657 series looks more like a 60's-70's drum brake steelie than original. 511 series is too smooth and no provisions for a normal hubcap.
I've been looking at them too. They come with a ton of back space which is what I like.. I have bought Wheel Vintiques Series 62 (painted) and Series 64 (Chrome) and was happy with what I got.... Those wheels at Speed way sure are cool looking without the vents I wonder if they are any stronger..
Ahem!! I have 4 Chevy Kelsey Hayes 15”x5” 4 3/4 bolt pattern coated black for sale . I probably will regret selling .
I think I've seen those. Only problem I have with them is, like many bare steelies, the register bore is huge(3" or larger) and doesn't have that factory lip or barely any. I was planning on running them bare or maybe a spider ring. Gigantic register bores on wheels always scream 70's 4x4 wagon wheel to me. Wheel Vintiques does the same, m***ive register bore. Maybe they have a newer variant that has a 2.8" register bore with a lip, I would prefer to purchase US made and local, but I'm not gonna buy anything that is a bit too generic looking. This is what appealed to me. . I want to take the '54 to a track day event for S&H but don't want to run 'mags' or stock riveted wheels. These seems like they would not flex like typical steelies of the era while still looking stock. Plus the register bore is spot on. I've cracked plenty of stock steelies, hooning it on the back roads. Thank for the heads up, but they don't look like my stock wheels. Which look like these. . They have four nubs, vs three, and the square cut of the center section looks more like a 70's-90's steelie which I have a set of already in 15x7.
I've had the Series 62 wheels. They are nice but the register hole is bigger. You can fit a center cap in them easily.
