I'm looking to redo my door panels, they currently don't have a handle or grip at all so it is awkward to close on inclines or in the wind. I'd like to see what some of yall have done with yours. My car is a 53 Mainline 2 door sedan. (although I wouldn't mind seeing any of your door panels)
Not sure what kind of look your going for, but here's mine, and also some junk yard stuff I looked at when trying to find a "pull" handle. There are tons of ***ist handles on all types of cars, especially vans, etc. The ones I ended up with (first pic)came off an early 90's Chrysler product...they were ceiling mounted above the doors, so when browsing junk yards, LOOK UP! Alot of luxury cars had lots of ***ist handles for us old people. When you mount whatever you end up with, make sure the screws go into the inner door panel, but be careful not to get too close to the gl*** with the screws.
My door panels are at the upholster getting redone. I 'm sticking with the original door armrest/ pull. I will post before and after pictures when I get the panels back. Good luck
thanks guys. I'm probably going to go ahead and pull my door panel apart this weekend (I need to fix my window track, and then replace the drivers side gl***). I'm also trying to think of some potential speaker placement within the door panel. I would want something as hidden as possible though (i hate the look of a big circular black speaker grill on the door panel)
I've seen speakers that slide under the seat so you don't have to place more holes in the door panel. I haven't gotten that far in my build yet but thinking about going that route. Also going to do something like that for the radio as my dash has the original non working radio installed.
Silverjk, Regarding speakers, you could perforate the door panel and put the speaker behind the panel. This makes the speaker nearly invisible. Many years ago I worked at a high end car stereo shop and that is what we did for a trick hidden look. Another option is to put speaker behind door panel, cover with a wire mesh to protect against errant shoes ruining your speaker and then cover that portion of your panel with acoustical carpeting. Completely invisible. Jeff
This is just an example, these come in most sizes:http://www.ebay.com/itm/XTC-6-x-9-S...H_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a6ad7028d&vxp=mtr If you mount the speakers in the door use these to protect the speakers from dust and water which easily seep past the "fuzzies" used in our old Fords. If you have ever had a door panel off when doing a restore no doubt you found a bunch of crud in the bottom of the doors.
jodell, That is exactly what i was thinking, i'll have to take a bunch of measurements to make sure the speaker won't flex out far enough to hit the perforated material (or tuck a grill under the material). I really got to get out in my garage and get to working on it.
