Im a newby and ive bought a 52 ford f1 with a 65 fairlane drive train 4spd ****** the PO put in a hydrolic clutch and never mounted the cylinder does it mount in front or behind the fork its a push cylinder type also how to get the push rod correct thank you for your input!
Should mount on the front to push the fork to the rear. Check out online pics of 60s Mustang hyd clutch installations. Mustangs used the same basic drive trains as Fairlanes. Joe
Ok had it mounted in the right location all hooked up but the clutch will not engage should i be able to manually move the fork and it go into gear with a buddy shifting it?
The springs in the clutch pressure plate are way too stiff to be able to move the fork by hand to disengage (release) the clutch. As for the hydraulic slave cylinder, it needs to be matched to the clutch master cylinder bore/stoke to insure adequate, but not excessive, travel of both the pedal and the slave cylinder piston to disengage/engage the clutch. With the slave cylinder in it's full contracted position, the push rod should be adjusted in length to place the throw out bearing very close to, but not quite touching, the clutch release fingers on the pressure plate.
