I'm envious of the relationship you had with your dad. My dad was career military and as such was absent for most of my growing up.
What a beautiful truck he left you. As these didn't come with hydraulic brakes that is the only change I would make if he hasn't already done it. He will be riding along every time you take it for a ride.

Sorry to hear about your Dad. Instead of door logos I would suggest some nice wooden sideboards with some kind of tribute lettered on them.

Lost my Dad two years ago. I feel your loss. Enjoy the truck, I would want my boys to do that. Your Dad knew you were a hot rodder. Drive it "as is" until you get tired of it and then dedicate your build to him.

Knowing that you and your father "will meet again someday" tells me that he taught you about more than just cars. What a blessing.

So sorry for your loss. My Dad gave me my first car when I was 13 & I still have it. I think of him every time I drive it. He p***ed when I was only 20. Sounds like you had a great relationship. Be grateful it was a long one.

You are lucky to have such a caring father. What a great farewell photo and the memories will last.
Makes me think of what to do with my junk and of my three sons and daughter. Some are car guys, some are not.
Enjoy the truck and keep thinking of dad as your cruise.

Sorry for your loss, I lost my Pop 9 months ago and it's a tough road without him.
I would not touch that truck for a year or two.....just drive it and enjoy it until your head clears out.

Can't add to comments of others, here. My dad p***ed away 7 years ago... I still have his phone number on speed dial. Can't quite drop it yet. Enjoy the memories.

Thanks guys for all of your kind words. That means a lot to me. This last month went way too quick for me.

Plans for the truck are minor at this point in time.

    1. Convert it to 12V

    2. Juice Brakes

    3. Dual exhaust. Not sure about this one yet. All my cars have a rumble. This truck is so damn quiet I think it quits at every stop, only to find out its still running. Something about a quiet flattie that is cool......

    4. Some door lettering to honor my father and grandfather. It will be: my last name & sons, Auto Service, KE 7 1234 (my parents old vintage phone number), Est 1908 (my grandpa's birthdate). My dad dad's had 4 sons, my dad had 6 sons, and I have 2 sons. Many years of a family tradition of gear-heads, and hopefully more to come .... :)

Great picture of you and your Dad, and great that he could be home doing what he liked in the end. Six son's and six cars must have been in his plans for a long time! The 37 looks like a super nice truck.

Another reason why some families love old cars so much, it's a time for sharing ideas, skills, dreams, swap meets, the BS sessions over a beer, or two.
Hanging out in the garage with my brothers, nephews and especially my sons are some of the sweetest moments in my life (...not to leave out the ladies but I too am from a family who hasn't had a female birth in generations..). And obviously for the vast majority on the members here these moments are cherished and shared. Telling my son he did a great job welding a piece of steel or him telling me he never thought of doing something that way before, is a great feeling.
I hope my son will p*** on the skills he's learned in our time together to his sons... that would be the best thank you and aknowledgement of love a father could ever have. Just as your father will continue on in you and with others as you p*** on his skills and knowledge .

  19. My deepest sympathy in the death of your father, hope you find comfort and pleasure in owning and driving his '37. Beautiful truck.

  20. Sorry for your loss, be thankful your Dad was spared the ongoing pain and suffering some endure. It appears his final days were days of happiness, with his sons. I agree with the others ...... keep the truck, as it is, in his memory. You DO KNOW he's riding "shotgun" with you.

    Bob.

That sounds much cooler than what I had originally thought when you first mentioned your plans.
