I am going to replace my Edelbrock 4bbl with a Holley 390 or 450. The engine is a 250 Chevy Mercruiser with headers and a Clifford intake in a 48 Aerosedan coupe, with a th350. Which is the better carb for me?
How big is the Edelbrock, and what's it doing or not doing that's made you decide it needs replacing?
The smallest standard e delbrock is 500cfm electric choke . If the e delbrock has not been messed with then the four barrel part comes in with the vacuum of the motor . Goodluck on your choice Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
The carb is a 650. It works ok, but just ok. I think a smaller 4bbl will be better for all around driving.
If you insist upon a 4bbl, go with the 390 cfm unit. It's still going to take a bit of tuning knowledge to get it dialed in right. About 20 years ago I built a 64 ChevyII wagon, with a healthy 250. Being young and broke, I couldn't afford a lot in the way of expensive parts. I spent what I could where I felt it was most useful. I bought a cam and split headers from Clifford's, ran a 194 head with 1.94/1.50 valves for more compression and made 3 separate intakes for 3 stock carbs. The intake ports on these motors are siamesed, so I had one carb for each intake port. I made them in such a way that they had thick flanges to mate up on the block, then came up at an angle away from the motor and had a flat surface on the top for a carb flange. Stock replacement carbs were only about $20 each. I never did get them dialed in well, I was much less experienced in carbs then, and if I were to do it now I would include a hot water tube across each of them to make them less cold blooded. Food for thought. Devin
You may want to start another tread asking what others are using on there 250 inline . When I was searching straight eight stuff you tend to find old post that answere alot of questions . Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
