I can't decide, Supremes, wires, Rocket Strikes, steelies, etc....whats your opinion?

I'm leaning on elegant wires, but not sure how many spokes to get?

Develop a theme for your car, then pick the wheels to set or enhance that theme. Selecting one part at a time with no theme results in a schizophrenic vibe to the overall creation.

What kind of paint? No badge removal? No additional lowering? No custom exhaust treatment?

A dark red/ruby metallic or metalflake with the body side insert silver. I may drag the tail a little more, possibly bellflowers. Badges/trim stays on.

Pinners of some type, wide whites are not in the budget...yet....

My take is.. make it a cl***y looking cruiser: same size wheels and tires front & back (bigs & littles on a 4dr say to me subliminally "I wanted the muscular, brawny two door, but couldn't find/afford it") - 15x5 or 15x6 chrome reverse. I'd paint it a dark single color, like a jewel tone color. If you want it two toned, I'd just do the roof, and not the cove, may be better yet, choose a single color and flake some areas, like just the roof or just the cove. For some reason the painted cove looks odd on that car - to me. On the flip side, single color cars have to have stainless & chrome in good to great shape. Two tone cars can get away with less good stainless since it often hides the paint lines. To me, single color cars draw your eye to the chrome & stainless. Two tone cars draw your eys to the colors, the placement, paint break shapes, and the stainless isn't as noticeable.

Looking forward to seeing it done!

Thanks for your opinion, the painted cove is what does it for me! I see others without it and don't like the look as much! I agree with cl***y style though....

Truspoke 5o's would look fantastic with skinny whites with that in a rich dark color. Good looking Olds...I had a '62 for 12 years. One day I'll want another...great cars.

I totally agree with picking a "theme" for the car. I have a 61 Dodge, and the cars of the early 60's were on the crossroads of styling. You can get away with a cl***ic custom look, low and level, or rear slightly lower, wide whites, and full hubcaps, nosed, decked and even more mods. OR you can go early California look. Watson style paint, Supremes, or chrome wheels, or painted and spiders, pinner whites, with minimal body mods, just a clean up of trim, and wild Watson paint, or at least his colors, maybe Bellflowers. It is even feasible to do it in an early muscle car look, Cali rake, other types of mags, blackwalls, no body mods, and a hopped up engine. Like the Starliner in Hollywood Knights.
I did my Dodge in Watson style, but as you know, I am also doing a 61 Olds for a customer. Cross between custom and Watson style. Cleaned off of all trim & handles/locks, custom grill, and taillights, wide whites, with super cl***y Buick Skylark wire wheels, Candy Pagan Gold tu-tone, and low and level.
Personally if you are keeping the paint as is, go cl***y cruiser. Mild lowering, some trim shaved, level stance, and some real cl***y rims. Wires, or even chrome reverse...but with some really cool small hubcaps, perhaps with paint accents to break up all the chrome. I remember seeing a custom with chromies, and 58 Chevy small caps, with bullets in the center, and some color flake paint around the bullet, background of the star pattern on the caps.
The painted wheels and spiders are more of a no nonsense hotrod look. You could do an Olds in that theme, but you have to carry with through to everything else. Your Olds is more sophisticated, hi cl***.
Oh and be sure to do your interior in the matching style!
My Dodge, in case you've never seen it. Lots of custom work, and Watson style paint.

  16. i'm going through the same thing with my 62.
while supremes are pretty much timeless, they are also played.
i really dig cragar s/s but for my car they might be a little too 'bulky'
Right now i'm really leaning towards some chrome reverse, but i've also got an itch for some Cragar Star Wires or similar.

if i had your car, it would be chrome reverse and 1" whites.

but then again, a set of spiders and trim rings might not be too bad or even a set of full wheel covers if the car is lowered sufficiently.

to save $ now you could run hubcaps or spyder style. pick up beauty rings with the smaller beauty ring and bullet lugs and a push thru bullet hub.
hubcaps or spyder would run ya a couple hundred bucks as opposed to new rims and tire mounting prices.

you guys aren't making it any easier....

I can get a set of NOS 14" x 6" Appliance wire basket wheels locally, wrong bolt pattern though so I would have to use adapters:mad:, I dunno, they are a bit cheezy. ?
