Projects Hood Hold-Down

I picked up a '30 Model A coupe a few weeks ago and have been busy stripping all the chrome doo-dad options from it. I have been running it with the hood off and I would like to go with just the top of the hood on the car for awhile. I have removed the sides and set the hood top on the car. My question is, how do you fasten the lower edges of the hood top so it sits flush and doesn't bounce in the breeze? Any help would be appreciated.

 

The most common answer you will get is to use leather belts down to the frame rail. You could probably fab up a hidden bracket of some sort with a thumb screw to hold them down. I am running sides only for now and have something similar on them. I am looking for latches to fasten the top to the sides and see them on cars now and then. Someone will have the answer for you....Tim

 

Made straps for mine. The springs are from Limeworks, needed for a little tension.

I made brackets that slide on the hood pins. Then used screen door springs to go hood side to hood side. Used one spring in front and two in the back. Doesn't show from the side and is just a little cleaner looking to me. Did find out last year that 25 years is the life span of a screen door spring. Hella of racket at speed but no damage.

 

I like the straps with the flathead look but on the fence with the more decked out looking engine.

Well, I looked at all the great-looking straps and considered various ways to hold the hood down. I opened my billfold and found a $5 bill, headed to the hardware store, picked up a couple small chrome tie-downs and four very thin bungee cords. They now hold the hood well and since the car only goes 35-40 mph at the most around town, I'm not worried. I did actually paint the yellow bungee cords black. You barely notice them. Thanks to everyone for suggestions and cool photos.
