This is a great thread. Pontiacs rule! Me and frient of mine thought it would be cool to build a clone of this car. Always wondered what the story was on this car. Nice info so far.

That pontiac was sponsored by Dick-Lewis Pontiac of Olympia,Washington. The car was owned by Dave Glenn. The mechcanic was Bill Crow..

  6. Yup - except for the Dave Glenn part. He may have purchased it AFTER it's short career as the Park Tiger.

What ever happened to Bill Crow anyway? Had a friend (?) of mine steal the dual quads off my disassembeled '62 409 SS to trade to Bill for something. Never saw them again! (carbs. friend or Bill).

Just stumbled across this thread. This car lives! My buddy John from Kent, WA has owned it since the early 80's. He bought it from a guy who never did anything with it, and it was the original chassis. Unfortunately, in the early 80's, the nostalgia movement hadn't caught on yet, and the original chassis was quite outdated, so he put a new chassis under it. He totally kicks himself for doing so now. The body is still the original one, I think he kept some parts of the chassis. He bracket raced it occasionally at Pacific Raceways and Bremerton till the mid to late 90's, and it's been sitting ever since. He does have dreams of doing something with it though. I'll try and get some pics of it and post them up.

I found and bought this body back in '90 . It was Jess Tyree's 68/69 Firebird. Now under the care of Steve Barcack - aka "Applekrate"

Definitely Cool stuff. I recently picked up a similar car, also from the Pacific NW - Wonder if built by same guys?

1966 GTO Custom - Vintage Drag - Altered Wheelbase - Originally Montero Red,
4-Speed, tripower - Trying to find out exactly when & where it was built.
Believe it was a participant at the 1970 Spokane Auto Boat & Speed Show
based on an old plaque last owner found. Had a custom red lace paint job,
some still visible. The car was customized - shortened 14 inches or so,
wheelbase altered in the late 60's when the car was only a few years old.
The last owners for over 40 years were brothers and car was purchased in
1972 off a car lot on South Tacoma Way. Drag raced for a few years at
Puyallup and Pacific (SIR). The 389 was pulled in '72 and replaced with BBC and ran in the 10.60 range according to the brother I talked to that purchased in '72.

I'm happy to confirm that indeed the car does survive! A couple of friends and I got to see the car in person this past weekend. John finally let the car go to his good friend Alan Hougardy, a talented and competitive drag racer (runs a 6 second Fuel Altered), that have been best friends since high school. It went to the right guy, as Alan plans on restoring the car back to it's former glory, straight axle, Dick Lewis Pontiac Olympia livery, Pagan Gold paint and all. His plans are to install a potent injected Pontiac mill and race it! Cool dude.

Well Guys, this car has survived! Postings on FB that i ran acrossed, car never left Washington State, according to new owner , a friend of his has owned it for 30+ years, his friend bought it out of a field in early 80's, and he was finally able to talk his friend out of it!, bad news is,car has been updated chassis wise (by his friend in 80's/90's), and motor is gone (although he says its rumored to still be around the area) he plans to put it back to its former state, heres a few recent pics of it

It still appears to have the altered wheel base. So no big deal with the body. Restore to it's short lived glory days!
