Wow! 58 posts before someone pointed out the obvious. "If you don't have permission, it's stealing."

Yeah, no ****. I got that. Thanks.

..... & 59 before someone complained about this not being "traditional".

I've been a member here for the past 14 years. I know what fits and what doesn't - and that's a big part of why I'm not on the HAMB much anymore. Hopefully the next guy that finds a pre-war Ford in a similar situation can benefit from the info in this thread.

I received permission to attempt to dig this 5 window out of the creek bed where it has been since around 1940. It is in a deep ravine laying on it's side & I'm not sure how much will be left but I am going to take some shovels & give it a shot. Owner says I have to wait until the crops are out of the fields surrounding it before I try.

Is it in standing or running water? I would really like to see a pic of what you are up against.

    Thanks,

Michael, I'll trade you my Bug for your '34! Let's make it interesting though and swap sight unseen. That would surely make the "odd trade" record books right?

You asked about the creek bed. It pretty much always has some water. Usually less than a foot. Sometimes much more. Sometimes it's almost dry.

    Pig in a poke.

i think you and i have talked vw's on here MANY years ago. i echo you on the time here. i'll say i'd have to be curious but at the same time i'd have a hard time focusin in a snake infested creek haha. splits/zwitters/ovals aren't that hard to find. yeah the lure of digging one out is cool. i think the best method would be if you could catch it low and temp damn it and pump out surrounding water to excavate might be worthy but i wouldn't put myself to deep in it. then again most would say i'm crazy for the coin i put in the 2021 stroker in my 67 squareback.

at least you'll have an interesting wall hanging for the garage or man cave.

  11. I worked civil design for several years, am up on stream bank stabilization and the company that I worked with was international. Car bodies in a creek are not considered to be proper for stream bank stabilization, it is considered to be trash and detrimental to the ecosystem. I suppose I could produce a list of heavy metals and chemicals that a car body leaches into the ground water system if you would like.
But in answer yes I have dealt with the TVA, we did a cleanup of an old mining site outside of Cleveland, back around '09. I am pretty sure that on a stream on private property the TVA would welcome someone that was willing to come along and remove a car body from the stream bed.
