Greetings, I am looking to install a 460 in my 1961 Rideau 500, which is a Canadian Galaxie. Anyway, my question is which oil pan will I need for the swap? The motor I have came out of a motorhome and the sump is more towards the middle of the block, unlike a front sump pan. Any tips and advice would be great! Thanks!!

Most 429 and 460 motors in p***enger cars had front sumps, as did the earlier FE engines. The motor was introduced in 1968 in the T-Bird, and used until the late 1970s in big Fords, Mercurys, and Lincolns. Thunderbirds and 2WD pickups probably have a front sump, as well.

My 460 came out of a Ford wagon, ('74) has a front sump. Plan was to sink it in my '63-1/2 Galaxie fastback, engine sat in nicely once I raised the engine mount saddles 2". Interference with the trans tunnel from the C-6 'stiffeners' cast into the top of the trans case was the only setback, (simple enough)
But Father's Day came, and #1 son gave me a gift box.
New 406 pistons, a set of LeMans rods, and some other goodies. Galaxie will now be a 406 car, with 6V system, factory shorty cast headers, etc.

A 'peculiar fellow' came over last year, said he's got a '61 Galaxie. He had a 460 with a center sump, (I told him he needed a front sump) This guy told me the center sump was the 'secret', so he was gonna hafta chop out that tube member (backbone of the whole Galaxie) and do some engineering to get around it.
I am at constant disbelief every time I meet one of these Gurus.
    "Where do they come from?"
...Central valley, California...near as I can figger...

Not a big help to the question posed, but I think I may have found the car of my future. I noticed the US Mercury like grill in the picture and was curious how the rest of the car looked. So I Googled 1961 Mercury Meteor.

All I can say is wow! I've always been a fan of 60-64 full size Fords, but this is like a factory custom.
I like the 1960 Meteors too.

And the 1960 was made in a Starliner body. Now, considering production numbers, Canadian winters, I might be in for a long wait.
