Packards, like the one I just bought, list the original selling dealership's name and location on a cowl plate. The 1940 I have lists it as "Arizona Motor Car Co." in Phoenix. I can't find any online record of it, only a "Phoenix Motor Car Co." which is still around. Any of you old time Phoenix types ever heard of the former dealer? It might be listed in a period business directory. I'm just curious. I am also checking with the Packard sites, but you guys come up with the most obscure stuff at times! Thanks. Steve
Like my note said, I've found the "Phoenix Motor (Car) Co.", but not the "Arizona .." one. Maybe it changed names in the past. Steve
This was a Studebaker dealer in Phoenix... http://www.studebaker-info.org/Dealers/arizonamotorcoPHXaz1914a.jpg
I picked up a 1941 road atlas at a Garage sale a few weeks ago. It lists the population of Arizona at 500,000 I'm betting there are not many Packards running around with that dealer name plate.
Before there were phone books, they had "city directories". I don't know if you can view them online (I doubt it) but they would list all businesses. If you're looking for a dealer from the 30's or 40's it should be in an old phone book. Photo archives would help. Tim
