Hi everyone Im new to this forum and thanks for adding me. There is tons of useful info in here ive found in the past few weeks. So thanks to everyone it does come in handy!! Heres my project a 1950 Pontiac 2 door business coupe I plan on installing a small block and th350 as the original straight 6 is locked up and I want more power and reliability anyway. Does anyone make a transmission crossmember for this swap? and does anyone know if my driveshaft will fit? Any info regarding this swap will be appreciated thanks in advance!! Happy hot rodding!!
Oh also doing the suspension putting air bags in right now and stripped and painted everything looking for some pointers if anyone has any advice! This site is great been using it for a few months just never posted...
I have done a lot of searching think ive read almost every post on here LOL Think im good to go, this site is great for info!!
A ****** cross member is easy enough to make, I'm using a aluminum Powerglide trans in mine, but mounting is pretty much the same. I included a couple of pics, 2x2x1/4 square tube and some 1/4 plates in the ends and a piece of angle in the center. As for power steering, don't know any off hand that will subs***ute the stock steering column and box, that why I went with a mustang II clip and so I have Chevy bolt pattern all the way around. Power brake booster mounting is a little tricky too if you want to run dual exhaust and mount it under the floor, I'm removing the heater box and putting it on the firewall. If you have any questions let me know. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Right on thanks! I think I will be doing the same with my ******, like you said it's easy enough, im running power brakes on the firewall with a hanging pedal set up, gonna have to lose the defrost box but that's ok, I would have gone with the front clip swap but im poor lol for now im gonna keep the manual steering, it's not that bad but eventually ill figure out a swap, the 605 box works fairly well from what I've seen....But thanks for the pics and info! I drove my car for several years with the stock front suspension and steering, as long as you don't try putting a smaller steering wheel on, it will steer fine. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Yea im sticking with the original wheel. This is a pic of what I got going on now, scarebird disc adapters and airbags, still haven't decided in the rear though, my first thought is 4 link with bags but might try the air over leaf and remove a leaf or two, but ive read it's not the best, plus my leaves look to be lead wrapped!?
