I have to take the intake off the flathead to check a lite tapping noise and hopefully just adjust the lifters. The last time I took off the intake to change it it just ended up getting one from Speedway. But, since I am in there I wanted to check the valve seats and see what the coolant passages look like so I'm going to need some head gaskets. Stock motor, stock heads but want some good to really good quality gaskets to keep everything sealed up. So please reply with what you have used in the last 10 years or so and if they are still currently available and where. Can I just head down to a Napa or O'reilly's and get some? Do they make thinner or thicker gaskets to help bump the compression a bit? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
We stock a composite material head gasket for the flathead, and a copper/composite type as well. Most NAPA stores will get you the Felpro head gasket....will probably have to bring in from their warehouse. Not sure what O'Reillys sells. We also stock the int manifold gaskets.
O'reilly's should be able to get a felpro set out of their warehouse. I work in their OKC warehouse and know we stock them as I have bought them when I put new head gaskets on my 8ba in my 50 truck. Part number should be HS7525B.
Best Gaskets (www.bestgasket/com), they specialize in the vintage engines, and are knowledgable for what to use for the large bore Flatheads.
