If your project was an old Ford that sat and was exposed to the elements your door panels are probably shot,I posted this a long time ago but the website has been changed here is the new site:http://www.route66hotrodhigh.com/DoorPanels.html
I found an old picture here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...ll-medium-my-125-homemade-door-panels.317738/ The before and after was on my old computer for some reason only the after is posted here, total cost for all 4 panels was $125
Amazing link.... I was thinking of doing this on my '59 with some pleated upholstery stock. Something real simple.
Best places to get deals are the upholstery supply houses that the shops use, they have a lot of other goodies too,I bought my door weatherstripping in bulk and they had insulation and a lot of the rubber bumpers you would pay 2 or 3 times more from aftermarket specialty stores. Windlace from most Ford aftermarket stores will cost almost $4 a foot and I paid under a dollar. Here in Phoenix we have a large amount of upholstery shops many of them Hispanic owned so it makes it easy to get good deals. H&R Sales is the upholstery wholesaler I used here is their website: http://www.handrfabrics.com/
If I remember, H&R is just south of I 10 a few blocks?? I bought some Weldwood Landau roof contact adhesive there (no one in Amarillo sells it) Great shop, I spent a good hour just looking around, and had a great chat with the owner.
The folks at H&R are great and will go out of their way to help out, just two blocks south on 35th Ave off the I-10 exit.
