Welcome to the 1912 Model T Owners Group! My '12 is a great runner too, little known secret that the 1912's were the hottest T's to leave the factory, and the ONLY year that had the factory records burned!

You can add this to your Alexander file, wonder if that advertizing claim is true?

  4. Forgot about this one Clark!
Done very little to help Mark along, but he should be up n running for the summer.
This is his Standard 9 Jensen built Avon bodied Special. Originally fitted with a 1200cc engine long since lost.
Now sporting a stock, rebuilt A engine and box, converted to open drive.
The carb conflicted with the lengthened A steering column mounted on it's side for cross steering(!), so for now it's wearing a similar looking but shallower carb from an... Atomic Four marine engine! Same choke size and bolt pattern with an adjustable main jet. It'll either run or it won't. It's a very skinny original bonnet that a downdraft Stromberg only just doesn't fit under.

great, just we need...more oddball british shit on here! (mee likey!) what are those wheels?

anyways, why not stick a downdraft carb on it?

  6. That abit of a mouth full!

  7. I shortened it to just the highlights.... - i think there's a No. 3 on the end!
The wheels are the originals I believe, although the axles are Big Nine. Don't know if you get commission Clark, he's ordered his Blockleys today.

  8. Would they be 19's?

They do alot more sizes now, but the prices are enough to make your eyes water. Still worth it though!

a little off the banger topic, but have you seen any of the early Jensen bodied v8 fords? i dont recall if they used the name jensen on them or not. but they are they really beautiful dual cowl tourings. with american waterboilers under the hood.

Great idea! I'll be here as always. I will also be posting 'The saga of my banger' or something like that. Building a gow job from junk parts HAMB style. Maybe another HAMB build for 2006? I'd like to do weekly updates on that, always open to ideas. That Alexander is the shit!

  11. Not my roadster, BUT I like the look and will make mine similar. Wheels look like the unobtanium 18" Divco/artillery style. I'm running KH wire
and a QC, between 36 housings.

Alexander head was produced in the mid to late thirties, in several versions with options like single or dual Winfield manifolds, dual plugs (mine) with corresponding distributor. It's similar to Cragar and others with Chevy 6 cyl. rockers and stands, and a "bowl" combustion chamber, but the "racing" version like this one has 1.88 intake and exhaust valves with 2" ports.
Speedway has a beautiful polished version in their collection. Alexander also made a V-8 OHV conversion which Speedy Bill also has on display.

I had to make the rocker shaft and stands. Currently have an intake in the works for 2 - 81's. Also used 1.88 BBC exhaust valves, 2300 cc Ford valve springs, Chevy retainers and locks. Using adjustable lifters with allen bolts to seat the Willys pushrods.

Motor is an old sprint motor with pop up pistons (which the huge bowl combustion chamber needs), side drive mag, and front drive Pontiac oil pump
with modified pan. It was an OHV babbit motor without a head. Has drilled crank and full pressure mods. Came with a AR multidisc clutch and can and B trans. Needs a cleaning, fresh hone and rings, and we'll be making music.

  12. Thanks for the picture; I don't have anything but an early brochure reprint.

From the early dry lakes times I've seen recorded, that might be wishful thinking.
The Cragar motors seemed to run faster, but who knows what they were in.
There were also a lot of hot flatties that ran equally well.

I've had it probably 20 years. Bought it off a kid who chunked a rod in his A.
    $200 then.

I'm positively in love with this car. I have been since I saw it in Hop Up. I've got an AMT 1/25 scale Model A that's going to get the same treatment once I get the time and ambition.

Any idea how the rear suspension is done? It looks like it's hung out back the same way the front suspension is (I'd call it "suicide" in the front), except it seems like it would be awful tough to lengthen the torque tube for that.

Dennis Piranio builds racing engines in the $30-75,000 range, for dragsters and tractor pulls. He developed these valve for the Model A on his flow bench. I will post some pictures of his shop and some of his engines in the future.

  19. Heres the flowsheet from Piranios site.

Have you settled on a spec for your new cam yet, Clark?

Who's grinding it for you? Have you got your engine apart yet?

  21. No, I'm only pulling apart when I have got everything ready to go. I want at least down time as possible.

    I'm in!!!!

It's just taken me a while to find this post, I check in here mainly for the 4 banger stuff!!

As I only get back to my banger once or twice a year for a couple of weeks, the progress or news will be few and far between,

I can say I've got a Lion Head in the mail, (ducks for cover) thanks for the advice from all, It was listened to and considered.

I'll try to con a mate of mine here as he's got a bit of banger stuff kicking round.

As for what sort of bangers, I reckon T,A,B, Chev, Dodge what ever just early stuff. As for late stuff modd'd in an early way, well, I'll not complain.

    Never enough bangers!!

when I'm home in May/June I'll take some pics of all the junk I've got,

Hopefully the A will get a bit of a tweek, and upgrade!! :D Only 4 months to go!! :(

Took some pics of this one the other day. Not sure what it is other than what the valve covers say. Thought I would share.

  24. What were your reasons in the end for chooseing the Lion?

If you waited you could have got an aluminium one!

This is a SOHC ROOF Head on a B Block, had twin waco mags and a shaft drive to the cam. Sold it to Doc. Pruden in 1973, wonder who has it now? Years after it was gone I found this photo of the car it was once in. Has anyone ever seen a RECORD Overhead?

I guess, the general ease was a bonus, generally speaking the reports I had heard were reasonably positive,

I hadn't heard too much positive about Alloy heads on the banger, ie different expansion rates.... I know that many engines have alloy heads and cast iron blocks,

I wasn't really able to find too much info on the other options esp, purchasing
them. Any more cost and I would not be able to afford it.

I guess I will find out in a few months when I go to put it on the car.

I am aware of the many different feelings towards this head, so I will take any critisism on the chin.

    Cheers

The Riley 2-Port is an F-head design, there are two intake valves per cylinder overhead, and the exhaust valve is in the stock location in the block. That is why there are two small valve covers instead of one large one. Neat design, and your banger still sounds like a Model A because of the stock exhaust valves, in case you want to build a 'sleeper' rod.

Just come on for a look after a time away from the H.A.M.B Great to see so many fellow Banger fans finally getting together. just read through the various threads and noticed a mention of model 'A' gears. My own banger runs through a F150 truck box converted to closed drive. Ive not run it in anger yet but so far feels pretty good And ive heard some good reports about this conversion.
I would post some pictures of my truck but have not sorted out how to post pictures yet maybe Clark/4EVER4 could help or one of the other UK banger boys.
Hey Clark nice valve kit can't wait to see the results on the track this season. You and Darren sure are hotting things up between yourselves.{That can only be a good thing} Im sure I read some place that buick nailhead springs are the way to go for big valve bangers? {but don't quote me} ..
    REGARDS ANDY..
