I searched on the HAMB but couldn't find anything definitive...

Has any body been ale to use/relocate their stock emergency brake set up when running a SBC in their 49-54 chevy?

If so I would like to know how you pulled it off

Old rod and custom did a 53 Chevy. They used a GM foot operated mounted to the left kick panel. When I did my 54 years Ago I copied that. It was very easy and worked very well. If you could find copies of that it will give you the year model parts. I don't remember the specs. Other wise using the tri five handle might be your next option moved to the left of the column.

Is it possible to move the stock emergency brake handle to the left side of the column?

I used a 70 nova emergency brake pedal. It mounts to the firewall and the dash.

I will try to get some pictures this week. I am working 14 hours a day

  8. I've been thinking about the same thing but it looks like the rod would need to be shortened or it would be in the wheel well. The other idea I've had is to use a foot operated one out of something (maybe a S-10 as I plan on using the rear end from one) and use the stock handle as the release lever. Don't know how well it would work I haven't tried yet.

I put the foot one from a 65 galaxie , had to bend the arm to suit me. Have the cable thru the floor , but not to the point of hooking up at the center yet.

Look at the '65 Mustang e-brake. It uses a pulley and cable and looks pretty adaptable. At worst you need a custom cable made up for the front of it.

I did the brake pedal on mine, but my parents have a '50 that was built when they bought it. It has the stock handle relocated to the left side of the column. I'll try to get over there in the next couple days and take some pictures.

55 chevy works well, was originally on left side of steering wheel. Same pull handle style

or maybe try a later model pull handle style, the one between center console

For a e-brake that is period, looks right and easy to install with a simple bracket welded to the firewall kick panel area use a '51 to I think '53 Olds. You can use Lokar long brake cables with one of their connector cables and it will work like it was made for it.

For anyone not using the stock e-brake setup on their 50 (or any other year that works), I'd be glad to take it off your hands as I don't have any stock e-break parts on my car.

  17. Almost all late style e-brake deals bolt to the firewall and dash rail and can be removed as a unit for re-use. The rest is just cables and mounts/p*** through rings, you can make them up any way you want.
