Super cool pics. Thanks for sharing. Any info on that #47 boat? Very low freeboard compared to other boats of the time. Real sharkey looking. I like it. An all wood Patterson would be my guess?
The Purple People Eater is shown in Xydias' Hot Rod Story.
Wonder what ever became of the PPE? Two other Allison powered runabouts from the era have been restored to their full glory, "Super Cinders" and "Phftt Cream Puff / Hot Rod Magazine Special" though those two were set up for marathons not dragging.

Thanks for the memories the pictures bring. I used to race my B-Stock Plymouth there in 1963/64.

 

I remember hearing the boats running from the dragstrip. Now who's got the pictures of Les Arnolds glider port on the other side of the track.? Lippy

Could not help myself, because I picked up this trophy at a antique store in Washington State. Don't know if its legit, but it weighs as much as a bowling ball and the patina would be hard to replicate.
