the further I take it apart the more I'm worried I won't have much of a cab left to fix, I'll probably have to tack some braces between the door posts and so on before I ever attempt to lift it off the frame

it doesn't look as bad in the pics as it really is, the area around the front cab mounts/door posts is in really bad shape, not much left holding it together. I think I may order patch panels for the parts that will show on the exterior and try to make the rest.

I'm probably gonna sell/trade the engine and trans if anyone is interested, I don't know what it needs to run or if it will but it's all there

one door, two pedals, and a few rusty bolts away from having the cab ready to pull off, I wanted to get the other door off too but it was hot and I had just finished a 12 hour shift.

I need advice on the best way to brace the cab up to keep it stable and the best way to left it off the frame without damaging it. Where the front door post, rocker, and floor all meet, there's not a lot left and it's a really weak point and I don't want it to collapse when I lift it off.

finally got the old bucket indoors before winter (took a while to clean the shop out)

after a long drawn out battle (and probably drilling too many holes) I finally got the left cowl panel(?) off. I need advice on which company sells the best fitting replacement panels. I noticed in another thread where a person who got their panels from LMC had to extend them about an inch or so to make them fit right. I know a blue million places sell panels, I just want to get the best for my money.

I got bored the other night and started doodling. This is by no means my final plan, but it's an idea and something to keep me motivated to work on it.

and as always, any tips on how to get this thing back in one piece are welcome, thanks

I've had good luck with all the panels I get from these guys, used to be Chevy Duty but they had to change their name.

  7. why would you change out the front to a 6 and run the back as an 8. I bet nostalgia sids could drop your 8 lug axle for pretty close to the same cost. they you have interchangeability.

check out the a.d truckers group. (N.D GMC'S are welcome too)

  8. if you run a stack hopefully you put a diesel up front.

I would like to go to all half ton suspension, I just suggested the six in the front because I knew where I could get a drop front axle with hubs, brakes and all for a half ton. I could probably just as easily find a six lug rear end. not sure about engine yet, anything that will move it down the road will make me happy, I really want to drive it. main concern is to get the cab stable again, and find some better front fenders. If I can find all the right suspension parts I will just cut the frame down to a short wheel base length but I haven't scrapped the idea of a frame swap yet. and thanks inked monkey for the website

If your inner to outer cowl panels are salvageable save them. The half "C" pieces. No one makes a good fitting reproduction. I took my originals ( that were rusty) and patched them back together.

The left side was nonexistent and the right has a little of the top half left. I may have to get creative.

FYI- the 1/2 ton axle is a bolt on, 3/4 ton and 1/2 ton used the same springs.

I think a lot of the older images were linked to photobucket and I cleaned it up a while back and may have deleted some pics or moved them to another folder so they won't show up any more.

If I could find a half ton frame in Kentucky for the right price or trade, I would be interested. everything would come back together easier than fabricating the back half of my frame

Speedway has a complete front disc brake kit for $250, I need to get some money rounded up for that, get my frame in order and put new brakes on the Camaro rear and I will pretty much have my rolling frame set up. I may send my steering linkage components off to nostalgia sid's to have them modified to use newer tie rod ends as well. Then it's on to saving up for my dual master cylinder/pedal assembly. keeping with manual brakes though, don't want to mess with the big bulky booster. trying to keep this build as simple as possible.

A little more progress. Got ahold of a 54 frame. Front spring packs have all new bolts and bushings, two leaves remove from each pack. New front shackles. Springs and axle installed. Next on to king pins/spindles. Looking for 51-54 car drums/hubs if I can trade for them to convert to 5 lug to match the camaro rear. Still need to rebuild all my steering components and rear leaf springs and lower the rear. Hopefully have a rolling chassis by the end of the year.

Been forever since I've updated. A few random pics. 250 inline six and th350 found their home between the rails. Brake master cylinder done. Using 53 chevy car wheels. I need to buckle down and put floors in the cab but I'm dreading it.
