What is the difference between a 48 and 49 Chev. p/u? Did a 48 ONLY come with a 3 window style body? Was there a deluxe body with stainless window trim chrome grill and bumpers in 48? Was the gas tank in the bed in the 48? The 48 and 49 were the only years with the vent in the drivers kick panel. When did they go to vent windows, to push button out side door handles. EVERY body has an opinion but I really need a definitive answer or where I can FIND a definitive answer. I've got BET money riding on the REAL answers. RINALDI
If you check out Jim Carter's Antique Truck catalog he has all the differences listed for each year. Go to page 8. http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/PDF_files/47-55.pdf
Bill,...as far as I know all 47-53 AD's were available with corner windows and the Deluxe trim, gas tanks on 47-&48 trucks were under the bed along the driver's side frame, same tank as used on panels & suburbans, side vents were used thru 1950, vent windows were started in 51 but still had turn down handles, ...how much is your bet? ...are you going to The Jalopyfest or the Iron Invasion?
47-53 had 2 pc windshield and 54-55 1st series had 1 pc curved windshield. Also 47-50 had 1pc door glass without a vent window, 51-55 had a vent window.
1952 was the first year for vent windows and push button door handles . Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Even when going to Carters catalog, there is no definitive answer as to the when the 5 window cab started, when the stainless windshield, door trim started. The ONLY difference it shows is the 47 (new generation) and the 48 did NOT have a gas tank in the cab. THUS NO TANK FILLER TUBE IN THE CAB!!!! My truck show no filler hole--EVER. I hope thats enough to win my five bucks!!!! RINALDI
Rusty1--- I hope to make JALOPY FEST on Sat. I'm sorry I can't make the Invasion in Oct. I've got a family commitment that whole weekend. Seeing as I NEVER KNOW what you'll be driving, PLEASE find my green 48, I've got a few questions about one of your 38 Chev. coupe builds from awhile back. Looking forward to seeing you at Jalopy Fest. RINALDI
2 cabs were offered from 47.2-55.1, 3 and 5 windows. When it comes to trim differences, there were a few years that did not get chrome grilles, trim, stainless, etc due to the war efforts. Long page, but there is more info on Jim Carter's site. Might also call them too, they have always been patient and taken the time to s/w me on any questions. http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/blog/index.php/category/technical-articles/1947-55/ Another source of info is the GM Heritage site. Goes thru year by year on some of the options/trim. https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-heritage-archive/vehicle-information-kits.html
1947-50 Had one piece door windows. 1950 was the last year for the fresh air vent on the driver side of the cowl. 1951 was the first year for vent windows. 1952 was the first year for the push button door handles. 1947-48 had the gas filler on the side of the truck under the bed. 1949 was the first year for the tank inside the cab. 1954 was the first year for the curved one piece windshield. And it was used into 1955 first series trucks. From 1947-53 the trucks had a two piece front windshield. 1955 first series was also the first time that an open driveshaft was used in the half ton trucks. Probably more info I'm not thinking about right now too, but I think those are the main highlights.
