Note the fourth car from the right looks like it's been sectioned compared to the one next to it. Also the '58 Plymouth has had its rocker panel replaced already, and it has one stock headlight setup and the other likely from an Imperial of the same vintage...
Ian was a good man, one of the best. The story of the little sports car was one Friday night in the garage over a beer - if you could believe that. Lots and lots of good memories. Another one was the time he raced the Ford Thunderbolt down Wiggins with his 55. You remember that one?? Many many good memories of the days in Saskatoon.
Ian McDonald was also a Draggin's member, and went on latter to create the Chevy 567 Club. The MG of Doug Feltham's - a Draggins member - was indeed won in a Brycreem contest; but it was Doug's sister who wrote the new jingle for the contest and she gave it to him. . Doug installed the 283, and because the car was so light, it just smoked the rear tires; hence the name "Instant Rubber." I was also a member of the Draggins, and lived across the street from Doug and had a couple of scary rides in it.
I drank MANY MANY beers in Ian and Annie's garage on Friday nights over the course of the six years I went to the U of S. Lots of good bench racing sessions....I miss him and Kelvin. A good friend of mine still has Ian's time capsule green 55, untouched as bought. One cold February night Annie got the brilliant idea to go out to Gr***wood for a stacked ham sandwich and four or five of us piled into it to go, as it was in the garage, and warm...Apparently slicks and glare ice do NOT mix all that well. Only made it about a block......
That was what they call the good old days of hot rodding. When guys wanted their cars to be as nice as the could build them. HRP
