When I was a teenager in high school 1973 or 74 me and a lot of my friends frequented OCIR ,a drag strip in Orange County in southern California. Well there was a 40' or 41' Willys pick-up I believe. It's been so long not really sure of the make. It was bright red an called Cap'n Crunch with the picture of the cap'n on the door. Beautiful race car. dose anybody else remember this car.or in the remote chance have pics of it?

Captain Crunch was an Austin pickup campaigned by Paul Wiechmann of Torrance. He made plenty of money and won tons of rounds with it competing in Pro Gas, Super Gas, and bracket racing until about the year 2000. Since he sold the truck I've seen it a handful of times at Bakersfield and Pomona, again painted red. For most of the 80's and probably early 90's the truck was painted in the Service Center livery, i.e. white with blue and yellow stripes.

Prior to Paul owning the truck it was run in the G***er ranks by Gene Ciambella and sponsored by C&O Hydro.

Check out www.austinworks.com where there are various pics of the truck in multiple configurations. There are also plenty of pics of it on the Facebook page dedicated to OCIR.
