No pulley on the front blower because it's coupled to the rear blower and both are driven by the one central belt. Not to handy to change if the blower belt gives it up.

  3. Thanks Rich, makes sense.

I just read on another site that John Farkonas (Chitown Hustler) has passed. RIP Mr. Farkonas

It looks like they were running a chain drive. not enough detail to see where the second mag is located.

  6. Yeah, the front blower is turned around backwards, and both are driven by a common chain. Now I see the front mag. Lot of engineering on that car. Sure makes John Peters' set up look simple. I think in this case, simple was better.

Mooneyham & Sharp, this was their first dragster after the 554 coupe, I think that the chassis is an H&H kit...

John Sauer, fuel coupe at Colton, ran a Dodge

  8. The front wheels on the M&S dragster look real familiar.

On the side view shot of the car, on the track, it looks like the mag on the rear engine is in the stock location. Man, these guys did a lot of work to make this all happen with this wheelbase.

  15. I never saw Scotty's roadster with out the full length headers. They way the engine is all wrapped up, maybe it's been taken apart?

  17. Merek, I met Memo at the LARS this year. He was with another friend of mine, Mike Evans. He has some pretty good stories!

Merek, you were there so you would know, but that guy standing in front of the truck in the white shirt sure looks like Norm Weekley, that's why I thought Ron Rivero was driving.
These guys were real runners, not bucks up but always trying to make the most of the motors that they ran -- I remember a 354" that they ran pretty well against the 392's. They bought their nitro (usually 70/30) at Blair's when I worked there, so I got to know them.

Jack Schempf (or something close, Arizona guys, help). Double blown McCullough blowers, Lincoln engine. He was from Arizona; I saw it race at Henderson NV in '59, ran strong. I think he also competed at the NHRA Nationals. The Fiat in the background is Bill Hopper's blown Chrysler gas altered from Tempe, also a strong runner. Hopper and Carl Grimes both ran Fiats in A/Altered, and when they ran the pits emptied out as they were real rivals.

  21. That Fiat looks bad ass! I love Fiat coupes.

yea., kind of does resemble norm, but his name is Memo... he was a good friend of mine. Helped all of us guys. As far as I know, Ron never drove that car. I might call him and ask. I guess you all know Norm passed away. I just spent some time with him last year. He was not doing very good the last few years. jim liked the 354, he felt they had a stronger bottom end. Ran them until about late 1965 early 66 when Chrysler gave them the 426. he only ran them a few mo. did not like them and went back to running the 354 and 392

Jack Schnepf. Looks like that could be Carl Grimes bus/race car hauler in the background as well. Neat pic.

Here is a shot of Carl Grimes at Santa Ana. He fitted out an old bus to haul the car. It was also an early flip-top body, ran a Buick.

  28. I always got a kick out of that Frantic Four photo at Pomona. Imagine fueling up a top fuel car with a cigarette hanging out of your mouth right over the tank!!

A lot safer than doing it with a gas burner Dean. When we first started running nitro in an A/FA back in the early 70's a lot of people were a little gun shy and stood well clear while we were shaking the fuel jugs to mix the required percentage. Sometimes to really freak them out we poured some into a shallow pan and flicked lit matches into it. Never did get it to catch fire. Squeezed in the combustion chambers and hit with spark from the Vertex mag was another matter .
